Costco - Greatest store ever, or a diabolical plot to take your money?

You know you've done it. I planned to pick up $50 worth of water and Tide. I exited the store $300 poorer...
BTW - Kingsford Professional Charcoal is $14.99 for two 18 lb bags.

It’s both. The CEO will tel you that most items in bulk aren’t discounted, you’re just able to buy in bulk.
TV’s, car tires, and travel packages are indeed cheaper there.

Glad I'm not the only one that buys tires at Costco. I've never really looked at the travel packages though.
I find their meat to be cheaper and way better quality than grocery stores around here. Salmon, prime steaks, whole trout (typically 4 fish for around $16) are my staple items

I love Costco. I think the pricing is great for the quality and there's always something new to try. My wife bought a car through their auto program and was very satisfied. We booked a trip to Costa Rica last year that was fantastic and really reasonable. Lastly let's not forget the no hassle return policy.

Eh, I mainly just shop there for meat. Maybe once every 4 months we’ll put in a ~$250 trip for necessities (paper products, etc...).

The charcoal won't go bad...
I bought 2 20 lb. bags of Kingsford Original at Lowe's for $16.99 yesterday, and picked up 4 more of the professional today at Costco. I'm set for a while.
Lowe's has Ridges for $4.99/bag, right now, but the last time I bought that, there was a lot of dust in the bag...

Happened to me just like this yesterday. I had a list with 6 items and spent just over $300 by the time I got out the store with the biggest ticket item being $120 for the Prime slab of N.Y. Strip.
I remembered the wife asked for stamps and that was $54.75 for a 100 pack of "Forever" stamps and got them at the register.

Their beef and liquor more than make up for the yearly membership fee

Get the Executive Membership and you get a rebate at the end of the year in a percentage of what you've spent during the year.
Last year the check we got paid for us to renew our membership and put around $75 in our pockets.
If you just get the regular membership with no rebate option, just gas savings alone will pay for the card.

I have the credit card and it pretty much does the same thing. Costco is great for me.
