Corn in gumbo???

I have several fresh ears of corn and lots of fresh okra. I have put okra in several times but was thinking of putting corn in my chicken and sausage gumbo. Any body ever tried it? Will I be banished if I do it like the pastalaya guys are?
Thoughts? Experiences?

Not traditional, but why not, especially if you have some fresh from the garden.

Its for a small cook off so I just want to make sure it won't ruin it. And do I pre boil it or put it in raw?

I honestly see nothing wrong in principle. Perhaps in tradition, but think about this for a minute. If we were living back in the 1800's and there was fresh corn readily available in acadiana, and all these poor people were putting what they had in the pot, do you not think corn would go in there as well? Now, let's come back to modern day and corn had always been readily available to people in Acadiana, how much you want to bet it would be a sin NOT to put corn in a good chicken gumbo?

As much as I love good fresh corn and gumbo, I wouldn't want it together. The textures of the rice together with the corn would bother me. I don't like corn and rice together. Also, it's too much starch for the gumbo in my opinion.
The other thing is that it would be such a waste of good fresh corn to bury it in the strong flavor of gumbo. It would ruin the corn.

At first I thought the same. But, a crawfish and corn gumbo sans any rice has me thinking that might work.

Good points, and of course it's personal taste and non traditional, but I've had yellow corn in chicken stew with a dark roux and it wasn't bad.

So I could use the cooked corn for rice...

I'd say put in the raw corn when the gumbo is ready and turn off the heat. No reason to overcook the corn.

Not me. Sounds awful. Corn in a white bisque with crawfish, yes. In gumbo, no.

I'm not sure it would really taste like gumbo but it would be tasty

Put me in with the "would be terrible" crowd.
Now, a nice crab and corn or crawfish and corn bisque? Yes, please.
EDIT: I've got it. Forget everything else. It's fresh corn, so you can scrape the milk off the cob. Cook a maque choux with it, and toss some crawfish or shrimp in right at the end.

Never know until you try it. Take off the blinders. Food traditions are made to pushed.

In the frozen food section of the grocery stoe they sell a gumbo mix that has okra and corn. I've never used it but they sell it. So somebody somewhere is corning up their gumbo.

Glass, I'm not interested. The texture of corn mixed with rice grosses me out. I don't like corn mixed with much, other than veggie soup or in it's own casserole.Maque choux is as far as I go. Had it in chili once. Didn't like it in that at all. Succotash really bothers me. I will not eat it. I think a dark roux on good fresh corn would be an obliteration of the point of eating good fresh corn. Corn has a delicate flavor. Why bury it in heavy flavors?

I haven't had one yet. That might be the problem.

Yeah...it wasn't that good, Otis. You must be well into the cocktail hours.
