How is it possible to have never run a dishwasher? Were you homeless?

Probably just a silver spoon millennial that didn’t need to do any chores while growing up. Real name is probably Bryce and played travel ball.

Yeah but Bryces generally move out of their parents houses before marriage. My money is on GenX or older who went from mama’s apron strings to a wife-mother. Same kinda dude who doesn’t buy his own clothing or shop for Christmas presents for his family, yet who is always shocked and horrified when his wife of 30 years files for divorce once the kids graduate high school.

What exactly do you bring to the table in this marriage?

You sound like a lab experiment

Yikes.

You don’t work and you’re just getting high with your dog, you struggled with hamburger helper, and you’ve never ran a dishwasher.

Mind me asking where the wife is going for 120 days? I wouldn’t be surprised if she never came back after reading this thread (unless she is going to rehab).

You’re honestly exactly what is wrong with the younger generation.

The grill is your friend.

On Sundays grill a few burgers, porkchops, chicken quarters, sausage etc.

Buy a frozen container of Savoie's rice dressing, add 1 lb of ground meat and rice and you have meals for several days.

Change it up with tacos/quesadillas and then pasta to keep a little variety. Like hungryone said, cooked chicken is a great starting protein.

Supplement with the occasional to-go order and that was my bachelor life.

Looks like he’s GenX

quote:

Well I quit my job today and it feels good man. 2 newer employees (both around my age) wanted to argue about how to do something and act unprofessionally. I was the "chief" of the section and made more money but no REAL authority. I said "I'm not dealing with this" then called the big boss and said that I'm leaving and I wont be back.

I am a few weeks away from 45 and I've been looking for a good reason to quit working and they gave it to me. I am retired from the military, my wife is a RN and we have additional passive real estate income of about $75,000 a year.

I'm smoking a bowl of some good weed, drinking a beer and enjoying the nice afternoon. Keep working hard you Millenials, I need some free shite!

He's living the life. I'd love to be able to retire that early. Sounds like a bunch of the grumpy old men passing judgement are a bit jealous.

Grumpy: guilty as charged.
Old: not unless OP is also old
Man: definitely not.
Glad OP has a steady income stream and lots of free time while his wife works hard, likely at some risk, during a pandemic. My objection was his implied denigration of cleaning as a potentially gender-specific chore that is beneath him.

He may be a perfectly fine guy IRL, but in this thread, he comes across as a sexist, lazy bum with poor eating habits. But yeah, thanks for your military service. Glad my veteran spouse got his shipshape, tidy, and squared away values in the military and didn't leave those behind when he separated.

(I told you I was grumpy, LOL)

nope...just generally baffled how a grown man can come here, ask for advice, receive a lot of good recommendations, ignore them, make hamburger helper, then quit.

The responses aren't to his retirement. They're to the fact that he said he has never operated his own dishwasher and he can't even prepare a meal for himself.

Regardless of gender, how do you retire at 45 years old and not become the person who cooks and cleans while your spouse is the breadwinner? Especially when your spouse is probably dealing with covid hell every day.

Thanks to everyone for their ideas. I do appreciate it and was looking forward to trying something new while my wife was away for 120 days. However, I realized that all I do is make a mess and it's just not for me. Hell, I've never ran a dishwasher in my life.

So this was never a serious thread? You were just screwing with everyone?

According to him:

My wife is on like day 5 of 120 of a travel ICU nurse assignment. Crazy money but working 6 straight 12 hr night shifts.

I hope he makes a turnaround and surprises her with his new skills when she comes home.

Im hoping she meets a nice ER doc who runs a free clinic for unemployed hospitality workers in his off hours and doesn’t bother coming home. But clearly you’re a better person than me, LOL.
