I see where Hollydale took the gumbo off their menu. It was a bit too watery but had a pretty good taste after you doctored it up a bit.

My most recent trip was much better than the time or two I went a year or so ago.
Solid spot.
Solid spot.

What kind of pig did the brisket come from?
Off to get more coffee I suppose

We went there for brunch a month or two ago. I really didn't like the bbq butter sauce, the grits had no flavor and the bacon was so salty, it was almost inedible. And I like salty stuff. Very disappointing -- we would have been better off going to Simple Joe or Louie's or any one of a dozen or so other breakfast/brunch places.
I think City Pork by the overpass is usually pretty solid, although some of the dishes are too salty sometimes, like the chips and bacon. The one time I had dinner at the Jefferson location, it was excellent. My wife has been to Jefferson for lunch a few times - she said it's been hit or miss.

I really like their cuban sandwich and their City Club is one of the best I've ever had.

Now this place has potential with the location but I watched the shite show in the kitchen a couple Saturdays ago and I'm a bit suspect about ordering much more than coffee. It was crowded and I was by myself so I just order a bagel to go with coffee and I sat at one of the small tables by the "kitchen" which is really just a stove and a heatlamp behind the counter. I had the pleasure of watching 4 people who apparently haven't mastered the short order skills bounce around like a Three Stooges routine. And since it took 35 minutes to get a bagel - I had plenty of time to enjoy the show.
I wish the guy luck - he had a crowd including Garrett Graves, who acted like he was the Guvna and Kip Holden who probably should be. Hopefully it works out and I'll go back just for coffee and the slapstick.
Oh and Kip was just on the verge of telling one of the cooks to pull his pants up from around mid thigh but just looked at me and shook his head. I got a chuckle out of that.

Next time I'm in BR I'm gonna try one of the sandwiches.
