Does anyone remember when Chinese crawfish were making their way into the Louisiana market during crawfish season? Does that still happen these days? Haven’t heard of an occurance in seems like many years. Was there a tariff or something?

No tariff. It just doesn’t make sense during crawfish season to bring them in. When you see crawfish for sale weird months they are from California. A lot of frozen crawfish is from China.

I think the Cali crawfish season is July through September.

It's almost as if you don't have the ability to read labels.

Restaurants use them. No all, but the ones that don't use La. crawfish use Chinese crawfish.

I’m by no means a crawfish expert, but I know in January I have purchased Cali crawfish.

Is Chinese crawfish still a big thing with the restaurants? I thought they had to disclose the country of origin ?

Not sure , but they get $2 or $3 a bag to use the name, from what I was told

Yes, but only if asked. You don't ask, they don't tell.

Chinese crawfish are still a thing at supermarkets, that's for sure. I make sure to read labels.

There are no labels on the live crawfish I get at the Chinese Grocery here in the Atlanta area.

Saw Chinese crawfish at rouses today. $8 less than La crawfish. Would never get it.

I've never had a label with my boiled crawfish, buddy. Most sacks I have purchased don't have labels either. Go F yourself, smart arse.

I've never heard of live crawfish being imported from China, only tail meat. School me if I'm wrong.

I've seen some bags of frozen boiled crawfish from China in the grocery store before, but it's been a very long time since I've noticed them.

They have both live crawfish and blue crabs everyday year round, so clearly they are not coming from the US gulf coast. I will ask the next time I run in there.

It produced one of the hardest laughters out of my old man ever

They were interviewing this old coonass in his boat, and old coonass was begging and pleading for true Louisianians "to only buy local, because good people support American and not those Chinese"

Well, the camera pans out, and old coonass is sporting and working a Yamaha motor

Just make sure the frozen tails say product of Louisiana, and not product of China.
