GOAT chili dogs (on a hamburger bun if I remember correctly)

What up with this? Buds Broiler does it the same way. Did they get pissed because of the mismatched hotdog bun packages? Old N.O. thing? I've never seen them served this way except at Buds

Texas Brand chili in a tan box in the refrigerated section (next to the hot dogs)is legit. I had a batch of chili dogs Sunday night with leftovers at lunch on Monday.

Castleberry's coney sauce is awful. Avoid it at all cost.

Sonic. Bring knuckles.

We'll have a coney after.

I saw that yesterday at the grocery store and thought about trying it.

38 Months

Mom and Dad were married and then two weeks later he left for the war. He was gone for 38 months.

His unit, in London, set up the maps and such each day for the generals and officers who planned the D-Day invasion of Europe, then left and came back to clean the rooms (destroy the documents) when they finished each night.

He was a grunt.

And mom kept the fires burning while he was gone. He said his buddies harassed him for the rest of the war after she sent him her photo.

His unit went across on D-day +4 and finished the war just outside Buchenwald concentration camp. They were among the first troops to go into that place. He never would talk much about it. The most I could ever get was that they insisted the people from the town go, At first, the civilians said "Nein Danka" and finally agreed to go when rifles were pointed at them. They claimed to never have smelled the fires that the Germans used to burn the bodies in the crematoriums and claimed it was just a factory camp for people who wanted to help in the war effort.

When the war ended and Dad got his orders to come home, They were in Germany at Buchenwald and Dad was to leave from Italy. His sergeant liberated a jeep and he and Dad drove from Germany to Italy (Across the alps) to get to the departure point. He came home on a banana boat. He always said bananas were the best things to eat at sea, because they taste the same coming up as they do going down.

Mom knew he was coming sometime, just didn't know when. She was at her parents farm 7 miles (down a gravel road) west of Isola, MS, about a mile east of the Sunflower River. hey were on the front porch one afternoon and she saw a man walking down the road toward the house. He was definitely coming to their house because hey were the last house on the road, but she did not recognize him. Then she realized it was dad, who had walked the 7 miles from where the bus from Camp Shelby below Hattiesburg had dropped him off in Isola.

At the farm outside of Isola. Wish I had his leather jacket.

I'm partial to Carolina style hot dogs: Chili (no beans), mustard, slaw and onions.
