Where in BR (Near Perkins and Blue Bonnet) can I find some chicken hearts? Already tried Albertson's, Wal Mart, and Matherns. TIA

I've never seen them and you are lucky to even get one in a whole chicken. Hope you find them because I eat the hell out of them.

I usually get like 3 livers and a neck. Makes me imagine a giant tub in the factory filled with chicken guts where they just reach in, grab a handful, and fill your chicken with whatever.

It's a bit from where you are, but I often see them at LeBlancs in Prairieville on Hwy 42

Not sure about BR, but if you have a big Mexican market nearby, they'll probably be there.

The Mexican market in Pelham, AL has probably twenty pounds of them any given day.

in a gravy. sauttee them just like you do meat. brown the shite out of them. add onions and sauttee those too. add a little rotel and brown with the onions.

I call it "catfish bait delite".

it's my sister's favorite meal.

MawMaw used to brown the hearts, gizzards and livers, in a cast iron pot, take 'em out, throw in the trinity until wilted, deglaze with a beer, throw the meat back in and smother with a farm full of thin sliced onions then she would let it cook down until the absolute best gravy you every had developed and threw it over rice.

My kinda mawmaw.

I do them all of the above ways. I will put them on the grill in a piece of foil or pan and just let them go on the egg and eat them. Not overcooked but I don't think I've ever seen them sold separate, like gizzards and livers. I'll check LeBlancs.

Thanks, gonna try my local Mexican market. These were/are going into a duck gumbo. If none can be found I'm just going to make rice and gravy with the ducks. But otherwise yes hearts are great just as mentioned above when added to a chicken or other bird gravy or when cooked with gizzards. I've always wanted to try and fry a batch like I do shrimp (milk, egg, flour). I've had sliced deer heart this way and it was really good. The chicken hearts could be fried whole without having to cut them up and would look like nuggets. Might call them coon arse chicken nuggets?

Find a local grocer and talk to the Butcher, im sure they would order them for you. My Mawmaw use to include them in her rice dressing, it was fabulous.

The grocery stores here sell them in packs with the gizzards. When the wife is out of town I usually pick up a pack and that's my dinner
