I'm surprised that people are unfamiliar with this in this day and age.

Don’t know about chicken and waffles but I can vouch for fried quail and sweet potato waffles. Had it at LeCreole a while back. It was toped w/ bourbon cane syrup and it was delish! If you ever go there get it, you will not be disappointed.

I'm really not a picky eater and I'm adventurous with food but this just isn't appealing to me. I didn't mean to offend.

Odd being it's old as the hills and they eat sweet and savory all the time.

That's what I mean. It's an old combination that has enjoyed a modern resurgence. I thought it was pretty commonplace

I think it's a pretty stupid dish, actually. And it's not really "Southern", as by most accounts it originated in Harlem.

It's still, however, more stupid for a freaking FOOD WRITER to let on that he's never heard of such a dish.

Oh it takes much more than that to offend me. I'm thick boned.

And this just made me go in the kitchen and make a batch of biscuit dough for in the morning.

I've had it at Cheesecake Bistro because they have cheddar/jalapeno waffles to go with the chicken.

I agree with him. No jelly or anything sugary on my meaty/cheesy breakfast items.

Ever seen the chicken and waffles at Hash House a Go Go?

Everything else on your list is great, but sweet red sauce just makes my stomach turn.

I think it depends upon the amount we're talking about, moderation, and to intensify flavors in the sauce, not take it over. Most go absurdly ridiculous with it, ala Monjunis which becomes one big sweet simple syrup mess that after a few bites I"m looking for any other flavor but syrup. Anything overdone like that, no matter if is sweet, salty, vinegary, or you name it, becomes real boring real fast. Balance is what makes food taste good, and flavor combinations as well as texture variance. It's rarely to ever more is better.

+1

I've heard of it many times but never tried it. Never understood the connection. I'm willing to give it a shot.

Bring a box of Milk Duds to the movies with you and add them to the movie theater popcorn. You're welcome

Off the top of my head, I can't name one on a menu. I'd love to get some from somewhere that put some effort into it.

It's easy to make at home though kingbob if you have a waffle iron handy. Basic fried chicken tenders, cane syrup and some nice waffle recipe. I've added a little cayenne to my mix and it's slammin, just a little different flavor profile. If you don't want to fry chicken, then probably canes or chic fil a will do fine in a pinch.
