Chicagoland beer must dos

Whenever I'm in Chi town, I drink nothing but Old Style and eat Chicago dogs. It's as American as one can get.

I'll be in the Naperville/Bolingbrook area. Probably should have specified.

If you're talking about chicagoland craft brews that you might not be able to get elsewhere, I'd suggest Revolution. And what style of beer do you like? Your best bet if you want to try some good local/regional beers is to find a great beer bar and look for seasonal or more rare stuff from 3 Floyd's, Bell's, Central Waters, Founder's, Toppling Goliath, and Surly...stuff which you might not be able to get at home.

I don't believe there are a ton of breweries worth visiting out by Naperville.

The ninja vs unicorn and lizard king are solid. Galaxy unicorn is really good.

- Half Acre has a taproom. Small, but fun atmosphere. There is a bottle / souvenir shop next door, though it is connected.

- You can Pipeworks across the city, but they recently-opened a bottle shop at their brewery that they call 'The Dojo.' There is no taproom.

- Lagunitas has a facility down in Pilsen with a very fun taproom.

- Noon Whistle has been making a lot of waves recently. They're located in the far west suburbs. Not sure if it is accessible for you.

- Hop Butcher had a lot of hype with its Galaxy Bowl release, which I really liked, but each subsequent release of their NE Style IPAs got worse-and-worse.

- 3 Floyds, obviously, is a renowned brewery. Can get very crowded on the weekends. It's down in Munster (IN), which may not be accessible for you, but you can leave there with a nice haul.

- Transient Artisan Ales is a brewery in Michigan that has begun distributing more-and-more in Chicago. I've seen a, relative, abundance at Liquor Park.

- Toppling Goliath has begun limited distribution of beer in Chicago, though I would recommend holding-off. PseudoSue, for example, is typically canned at Brewhub (Lakeland, FL) and nowhere near as good as what you can get from the source in Decorah.

- Spiteful has been doing good things and I've always had a soft-spot for Working for the Weekend ever since I moved to Chicago. Very solid DIPA and they distribute throughout Chicago at shops and bars.

- A couple bottle shops with tasting rooms that I would recommend visiting are Beermiscuous and Bitter Pops, both in Lakeview. They have huge varieties of Chicagoland beer and a tasting room that will feature anywhere between six and 12 taps.
