Chicago restaurant/bars recommendations

This board did not let me down last year when I went to NYC. This year the wife and I are spending a few days in Chicago.
I have been a couple of times, but it has been about 7 years so I've forgotten everything.
We would like to try some classic Chicago pizza (I realize this is a point of debate, so we will try a couple places)
Need 1 nice place where we can have an anniversary dinner. The rest can be casual.
Will be there on a Sunday too, so any place we can watch Bears fans melt would be great too.

Girl and the Goat
Alinea if you can get in
(Not a Chicago expert. Locals can steer you much better, but Alinea is on my list and GATG was an incredible meal)

Riccardo Trattoria on Clark - nice Italian
Pizano's thin crust for pizza (the term thin is misleading but it's not a pie like the deep dish)
Toro for sushi
Gibson's for the scene (or Hugos next door for a more seafood-leaning menu)
Le Colonial - high end French Vietnamese
RPM if she's that kind of gal and you have a fat wallet
Shaw's for seafood
Frontera for Mexican

I was a big fan of the italian beef, if you’re looking for a casual lunch stop. We had Al’s, but there are other options (Al’s is what the cab driver recommended). Recently made some at home actually.

When are you going to be there?
Obviously, Alinea is the kingpin... I'm taking the missus to Oriole (West Loop) in early Jan. for her birthday.. can report back...

I am a big fan of going where the locals go, not the highly marketed places that attract tourism

Of this month? Yeah, scrap Alinea. And probably GATG too...although you can get lucky and snag a late reservation sometimes.

We made a spontaneous decision a couple days ago to go.

Nothing wrong with that! We did the same thing with our Chicago trip a few years ago. Cyber Monday had crazy flight deals and we jumped on it. We were able to get a 10:30 reservation at Girl and the Goat on Friday night about two weeks in advance. We went to the hotel and napped, then woke up and went to dinner. Totally worth it.

I love Le Bouchon. Small, casual french brassiere. Very well known place but still easy to get reservations. Order everything.

Pequod's Pizza is my favorite that I have been to so far.
I was told Au Chaval has one of the best burgers that you will eat. Well, I went back to Chicago a few weeks ago and was able to go. It was really one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. Make sure you get the bacon on the burger too. One other thing, don't go at a conventional time or you will have a long wait, or just get there early.
Purple Pig is also good. Food is a little different, but I really enjoyed it.

Art of Pizza, Pequod's, Lou Malanti's, Phil's Pizza, Vito & Nick's

Girl & The Goat, Monteverde, Oriole, Blackbird, Smyth & The Loyalist (would recommend Loyalist over Smyth, which is pre-fixe), Publican, Maple & Ash, Giant, Parachute, The Warbler, etc., etc.
There are so many to choose from, it's difficult to narrow anything down. My recommendation would be to make sure you get out of The Loop and River North - explore neighborhoods, all of which have very nice restaurants.

The rest can be casual.
Happy Camper, Paradise Park and Homeslice are pizza spots that are frequented by younger crowds. Pretty fun day spots.
Otherwise, Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba and Kanela are good brunch spots.
If you're looking for fast food, check out Portillo's, McDonald's HQ (international menu), Shake Shack, etc.

Any bar in the city, but Birds Nest in Lincoln Park is a good option.
Pretty broad topic, so hard to give specific recommendations without knowing much of what kind of food you like, age, etc. There are a ton of Chicago topics, too, if you search.

Not said yet but if looking for recommendations in the loop you should try and get in at Bavette's. Everything there is amazing. Pro tip, even if you can't get a reservation you can get seats at the bar and order off the full menu.
But I agree with hoops, get out of downtown.
West Loop has a ton of great options... parlor has good pizza, green street meats the best bbq in town.
If you're looking for a fun place to get great pizza, I wouldn't do art of pizza... amazing stuffed pizza but not much of a scene.
For the bears game, every bar in the city has TVs and will be showing it. Might be fun to hit a bar strip and check out a few different ones.
