Anyone watching? It's pretty cool watching how the top chefs/restaurants in the world came to be and operate

Anyone eaten at one of the restaurants? Have a review?

I want to start knocking off the list. I think it'd be cool as hell to plan small/short vacations once or twice a year centered around one of these restaurants until I knock off the whole list.

quote:

Massimo Bottura (Osteria Francescana in Modena Italy)
Dan Barber (Blue Hill Restaurant at Stone Barns and in New York City, United States)
Francis Mallmann (El Restaurante Patagonia Sur in Buenos Aires, Argentina)
Niki Nakayama (N/Naka Restaurant in Los Angeles, United States)
Ben Shewry (Attica in Melbourne, Australia)
Magnus Nilsson (Fäviken in Järpen, Sweden)
Grant Achatz (Alinea, Next, The Aviary, and Roister in Chicago, United States)
Alex Atala (D. O. M. in São Paulo, Brazil)
Dominique Crenn (Atelier Crenn and Petit Crenn in San Francisco, United States)
Enrique Olvera (Pujol in Mexico City, Mexico)
Ana Roš (Hiša Franko in Kobarid, Slovenia)
Gaggan Anand (Gaggan in Bangkok, Thailand)
Jeong Kwan (Chunjinam Hermitage at the Baekyangsa Temple, South Korea)
Vladimir Mukhin (White Rabbit in Moscow, Russia)
Nancy Silverton (Mozza in Los Angeles, United States)
Ivan Orkin (Ivan Ramen in New York City, United States, and Tokyo, Japan)
Tim Raue (Restaurant Tim Raue in Berlin, Germany)
Virgilio Martinez (Central in Lima, Peru)

My favorite episodes so far have been

Massimo Bottura

Magnus Nilsson

Grant Achatz

Alex Atala

I went to Alinea in 2010 - still the best meal of my entire life.

You gotta do that one for sure.

Making my way through Season 2 now. Love that show.

They definitely hit it out of the park with episode 1 with Massimo. He's still the best.

I will go to Modena one day just to eat at Osteria Francescana. Bucket list item for sure now.

I think Alinea (Grant Achatz is a genius) will be my first one. Chicago is just too easy to get to from BR. Plus I checked and it seems to be not too bad getting a reservation, as long as it's a month or two out.

Osteria Francescana now. Their calendar is 100% booked for a long, long time

Just know that they do that ticket stuff nowadays, so it's not a traditional reservation. And it's definitely more expensive than it once was, though it's always been very bad, price-wise!

What do you mean ticket stuff?

The reservation calendar looked pretty straight forward to me

Essentially, you buy a ticket rather than make a reservation. You're required to buy the ticket up front, which essentially eliminates "no shows" because who's going to buy a ticket and not show up?

Yep - and then different times and different days affect the pricing as well.

I went to Atelier Crenn in SF last year. Really, really interesting experience. not the best meal I've ever had but a lot of great dishes and ingredients. She came around and spoke to everyone, very friendly. Reservations weren't very hard to get either, but it was not a cheap meal.

I went to Achatz's bar in Chicago, the Aviary. That's as close to Alinea as I've gotten so far. It was still an experience, but I wouldn't go back. Each drink was well over $20 and none of them were particularly great.

Had a reservation at his other restaurant in Modena since it is basically impossible to get one at Osteria Francescana back in September, but had to cancel because of a scheduling conflict while we were there. Biggest regret of my trip.

Massimo, Alex Atala, and Enrique Olvera were my three favorite episodes.

Me too. He and Marco Pierre White have come full circle. I like how they reflect on their past cooking and feel regret for being arrogant and pretentious. Well, Marco is still arrogant and pretentious, just a little less these days...

I just read an interesting article about him in Esquire

Is Francis Mallmann the Most Interesting Chef in the World?

To get to his island in Patagonia from Miami (where he has one of his restaurants), it takes a couple of long flights, a 5 hour truck ride through the middle of nowhere, and then a 90 minute boat ride.

Can you hear me now?

Easily

The dude convinced a chick in her 20's to have his baby, then proceeded to tell her not only will they not be married, but they will not even live in the same place together. He will just pop in an out occasionally to hang with the kid and get laid. The man is an anomaly

I'm pretty obsessed with Faviken and really just Nordic cuisine in general these days

Mallman seems like such a dick and ego maniac, but you can't help but be envious of his life
