Traveling from Auburn to Galveston over the next 2 days. Timing has us hitting BR around rush hour tomorrow. Wife's idea is to stop in BR somewhere to get some Cajun food. Can anyone make some recommendations on some local eats in the area? I will eat my weight in etouffee and Gumbo.

Stop at Tony's seafood. Get a plate lunch and some frozen goodies to take home.

Try Parrain's. It's as good as you are going to get in BR. And right off the interstate on Perkins Rd.

The Parrain's suggestion is a good one. Their étouffée is very good. Get some raw and charbroiled oysters too.

I may have misunderstood the question. I thought the OP was looking for something to grab and go. Perhaps my mind locked in on the "rush" hour part.

The last several times I've eaten at Juban's I have been extremely disappointed. Everything way over salted and terrible value.

Mansur's and Louisiana Lagniappe are both fine but for what he is looking for, etouffee and gumbo, Parrain's and The Chimes are better options. Since they are owned by the same group and the recipes are similar for many items, I suggested Parrrain's since it is easier to access from the interstate on his way through town.

Bust through BR until you get to Breaux Bridge and hit Poche's...

Your best bet is probably Louisiana Lagniappe.

Less expensive would be Chimes, Parrain's, or Roux 61.

Wouldn't mind a sit down. It will be our get out and out of the car for a while stop. Don't want a 2hr meal though.

You're going to HATE BR traffic by the way.

If you’re arriving in BR during rush hour, I’d keep driving personally. There is nothing Cajun in BR worth that headache in my humble opinion. BR is not a Cajun food town. I’d stop at Pat’s in Henderson just off I-10. They do crawfish dishes well. I don’t know about the gumbo bc I always order the crawfish bisque with stuffed heads. Delicious. Others may disagree overall but if you’re looking for crawfish etouffee, it will be fine. I like the soft shell crab and fried catfish also. May as well enjoy the Cajun accents too.

Excellent advice here. Pat's is a better cajun choice than anything BR has to offer. And yes their bisque is fantastic. Soft shell crabs are also very good.

I agree - Juban's is overrated. The last two times were so bad that I won't go back.

Yeah um I'm gonna have to disagree on that. Pat's was a total flop in BR due to poor quality and high prices. I love their set-up out in Henderson but the food really isn't all that great.

Like several have said... just ride through BR, there aren’t any real options. Parrains isn’t bad... but shite, drive 35-40 more minutes and eat in Henderson or Breaux bridge. Not going to have to deal with traffic at all over there.
Poches
Crawfish town
Pats

Pats in BR was terrible, but the one in Henderson isn’t bad. Their bisque is usually on point.

Im from Acadia parish and I’ve had aunts and uncles who’ve lived in St Martin Parish all of my life. That being said... if you make good time another place that’s easy on and off is Chef Roy’s in Rayne or Fezzos in Scott or Crowley. Those 2 options are another 30 min past Breaux bridge.
Chef Roys and Fezzos are Rayne folks. Acadia Parish Cajun food.
Pats, Poches and crawfish town are all st Martin parish folks and good food as well.

I remember getting plate lunches from Poches with my aunt back before they went big time. shite was always good... of course that’s prolly why I was “husky” as a kid.
