I wouldn't worry too much about it. Even if Calandros started accepting EBT, which I really hope they wouldn't, the store is small and doesn't have all the junk these people are buying at the big stores. I worked in a grocery store in high school, and people on food stamps bought 90% packaged junk food. Calandros has very little variety of that.

Of course, it would suck to have them swiping up the nice meats with their EBT card.

Well yeah and the people currently giving these bad reviews still wouldn't shop inside due to the higher prices. Makes it really comical imo

Let's be frank, the stereotype is that black people are on food stamps (we know that the majority of food stamp recipients are white). Not accepting food stamps is a not so subtle cue to your employees that black people aren't welcomed at your store.

Do you plan to address these systemic ways Calandros discriminates/excludes, or do you merely plan to address grievances individual by individual?

God, people are stupid.

Where does it say they'll accept EBT?

That inference is included in the card catalog of idiotic comments from the peanut gallery, on the complainant's original facebook post.
Their REAL gripe is that there aren't any monuments to take down.

It doesn't. That's just the current mission of the commentators.

It doesn't that is speculation, hence why I put the ?

It does say they are going to look into things and apparently that is the biggest issue people have and one of the issues that started all of this (along with the bag)

there should be EBT grocery stores and then grocery stores for the rest of us...the EBT store would only stock what the EBT cards are valid for

if that sounds racist so be it
one of the perks for paying for my own food, and the EBT food, is that i be able to enjoy my grocery shopping

They should just make everything EBT... cars, food, clothing, electronics, entertainment... no need for money anymore

Holy shite.

That takes some serious mental gymnastics to arrive at that conclusion. I can't believe people make those kinds of idiotic statements then demand to be taken seriously.

I don't even see how this is racist. If anything, they are just targeting the demographic they want, which purposely excludes big families and whatnot.

Small locally owned businesses have targeted certain demographics forever. EBT or not, Calandros is a small store with limited selection. They cater to old folks, single people, that kind of thing. I like to shop at small stores like Calandros and Robert's because they have a small enough selection that they don't attract the families who drag all 5 kids through the store for a 2 hour shopping trip. Robert's may actually even accept EBT, but they know how to stock their store to keep the shoppers they want. I don't see anything wrong with this or why it is "racist" to want to shop in a certain type of setting.

I pay more to shop at Calandros and Roberts, not to avoid black people, but to avoid bad behaving children, long lines, and shitty employees.

nd shitty employees.

this is part of the problem, one lady commented how after she was told no EBT cards the cashier and bag person said it was Trumps America and high fived each other...

not sure if this is true but they have a ton of complaints of people being rude. Of course it may be how they are treating these people as well.

I avoid trash, black or white. I tried shopping at Wal-Mart once during college and promptly decided to stay with Rouses after witnessing an EBT queen slap the absolute shite out of her kid for dropping a rotisserie chicken.

99% chance this is total bullshite. Even if it wasn't, it doesn't make any sense... it's not like they had to accept EBT in Obama's America.

There used to be a snotty old lady who worked at Calandro's that was awful and wouldn't even acknowledge me when I'd say hello/thank you, but it's not exactly any different from your typical WalMart cashier. And she is the only employee I ever had that problem with.

I believe that some of these rudeness complaints are true, but I don't think they should go as far as demanding EBT.

At the Perkins store I've only had one issue and it wasn't with a cashier. It was in the alcohol department for Bourbon Country. I went in asking if any was available and told no, not a big deal and a left, then another poster posted they went in and bought some an hour after I was in.

Just pissed me off
