Heading to Austin in a couple weeks. Any suggestions of beers to bring back? I just started getting into the whole craft brewing thing so any suggestions are appreciated. not really a fan of anything bitter. More of a GITM/Envie drinker.

Get a growler of Electric Jellyfish IPA from Pinthouse Pizza South. It's smooth, juicy and delicious.

Buddies I know like bringing back Rahr and Sons Blonde, and Revolver Blood and Honey. Both good beers that are hard to find in Louisiana.

There's a bar on Rainey Street called Craft Pride. They also have a little store if you want to buy some stuff to bring back. They're really helpful if you tell them what you like or ask for suggestions.

Go to Jester King x2.

WhichCraft is a solid bottle shop. You can get lost by the selection though if you're new to the craft beer scene.

Total Wine may have the best selection to buy from as far as variety.

I'm headed to Austin tomorrow. What's the difference between the 2 Pint House locations? Just proximity?

I went to hops and grain on my bachelor party and they had some quality beers. I don't remneber their IPA standing out but this was over a year ago and I could have forgotten.

Also Bangers on Rainey Street is a great meat-centered restaurant with an incredible beer selection. Nothing you can take home obviously but a good way to sample different brews without buying a six pack or bomber.

Two different Brew Crews, which results in completely different beers between the locations. The north location has been around longer but I think South makes better beers, particularly the IPAs. More space to brew at S. Lamar, too, which means more of a selection of house-made beers, in addition to the only open-top fermenter in the region.

Also, WAY more parking, bigger patio, and easier to access from downtown.

as always y'all are awesome. I had already taken a look at Jester King because it was mentioned as a cool place to go in some of the Austin threads. The SO isnt big on beer so if we're going to go to a brewery, one that has a pizza truck and good picture opportunities is much easier to talk her into.

I will probably be driving in on Friday so I'll just stop by there on the way in. Hope they don't get too packed with the lunch crowd

As others noted Jester King is one of the coolest breweries out there.

Also check out Independence. The place is basically a warehouse but they staff is friendly and there's plenty of games to play if you have a group.

There are a lot of posts here that make suggestions for breweries that don't bottle, such as 512 and Pinthouse Pizza. Pinthouse has great pizza btw.

If you need a place to get some of these beers, try Whichcraft, Whip-In (also a very good Indian Restaurant), or Sunrise Minimart. Specs has a good selection too, but these places have people that work there that are very knowledgeable about beer and can help you find something good.

If you like Envie and Ghost, you'll like these:
Hops N Grain - Mosaic IPA
Lone Pint - Yellow Rose IPA (Not Austin, but you can't get it in LA) One of the best IPA's you'll have.

Other suggestions for Austin beers:
Hops N Grain - 78702 (Kolsch)
Hops N Grain - Greenhouse IPA
Adelberts - Flying Monk (Quad)
Jester King - I'm not a big fan of their stuff, but they have a lot of good sours if you like that.
Blue Owl - Also a good one if you like sours
Thirsty Planet - Thirsty Goat Amber
Live Oak - Hefe...Only get it on tap. They used a different recipe in their cans and it is not as good.
Austin Beerworks - Pearl Snap (German Style Pilsner)

Non-Austin Beers, But still TX
Ranger Creek - Strawberry Milk Stout (don't get the Imperial)
Lakewood - Temptress (Imperial Stout)

If you are at a bar and want something on tap that you can't get in a can, most of 512's stuff is good, as well as Thirsty Planet.

Stanley's isn't a pizza truck, it's an outdoorsish pizza bar. And they make great food. And they have some great beers other than the Jeater King next door

Is she in to wine? Jester King makes great beers if she's in to wine. Seems a lot of wine drinkers find sours and farmhouses easier to digest than other beers.
