I picked this up at Total Wine in Metairie yesterday. I would get it again for sure. Very dense and high quality king cake. I know there was a thread about the strawberry not being worth it but this one is.

I dunno if “dense” is a positive attribute when it comes to king cake.

The evolution of the King Cake has for the better, the KC of my youth was slightly anise flavored, and unless it was about 20 minutes out of the oven, they tended to be a bit dry. They were actually used for flood control after hurricane Betsy since they could absorb 100X their weight in fetid flood water.

The many flavored KC's of today are delicious, although out of the reach of my diabetic system, the only variation I disapprove of is the fried version, that is a King donut, not a KC.

I'd try it

I'm not much of a fan of king cakes with all the granulated sugar all over the top. Yeah it looks nice. I like sweet. I don't like chewing sand on the ones that go heavy with it.

I'm the opposite. Not much for most sweets, but I like a king cake that is very cinnamon-y on the inside and has the crunchy sugar on top. I don't really like the creamy white icing some do.

I just bought a Brennan's strawberry king cake today to take to a party I am going to on Sunday. It is pink and looks more like a Valentines Day cake than a Mardi Gras cake but it does look good. I will let you know how it is.

Bumping this. Picked this up again from Zuppardo’s this time. It’s a really good king cake.

I like the strawberry.
The chocolate is good but it doesn’t seem like a real king cake.

It’s a cellphone picture posted on the internet. How does that look dry? This is simply being critical to be critical

I’ve had theirs before and it’s very good

King cakes are terrible and only worth eating at work. King cakes with granulated sugar on them are extra terrible.

King cake FOMO is real… Any standards I may have once had went right out the window when I moved away from LA. They all look and sound delicious!

Same! When I lived in LA I would complain that people brought king cakes to my house all the time. Now that I don't live there I just want a bite lol.

Which one? I want to try one but haven’t seen a plain one at Zuppardos yet.
