lionward2014, after buying a standard Ole Forrester for mixing, I'm a fan of Old Forrester after sipping on the regular stuff. It's a lot better than what I used to buy for mixing.
So I'm going to grab a special Old Forrester bottle. I'll keep an eye out for these.

Penelope Architect is one of my favorites but I do love french oak (see Blue Note Cross Roads)

Thanks on this rec Zappa.
I picked up a bottle of this after work. I enjoying being able to pick a note out of a pour and you are right about the oak notes in this. I like when there are other flavors in there but there is a particular one that stands out. I just did a sip of this one after getting home. Didn't spend time on aroma...but the flavor is fantastic, especially if you like oak. Not bitter or biting at all.

AlxTiger, this is really good also. I picked one up with the Penelope Architect as well. Lower proof but solid. Mellow, sweet on the front end, and good overall flavor. I did a full pour of this and the aroma was brown sugar, vanilla notes. Very nice.

I took a chance on it based on a review from a guy I trust. So happy I did.
Just picked up a New Riff barrel proof store pick from Hokus Pokus and am very curious to see how it compares to my existing bottles.

there is a Bakers 13, but it is hard to find and very pricey when you do. I found it in Texas, but they wanted more than I want to spend on 1 bottle of bourbon.

Larceny Barrel Proof isn’t too hard to find and is the best thing going under $75 IMO. On the higher end I don’t think anyone is making anything as good as the Parker’s Heritage bottles I’ve gotten my hands on.

I put Jack Daniels Black 7yr in my (antique) decanter because I enjoy Jack and Coke as a Friday after work cocktail, and gameday sipper.

I have many bourbons and seem to like this current inventory:
Eagle Rare 10
McKenna
Four Roses-find one you like
Wild Turkey Rare
Jack Daniel 10yr
Bulleit Rye for Old Fashion
Stellum
Penelope
Chicken Cock
a few more I can't recall.

I would also suggest keeping a couple bottled of a good dark rum and at least 1 reposado or amedo tequila. You may like the smokiness of the tequila and the sweetness of sipping on a good rum.

jmon, yes i love a good tequila and rum to sip on. Anejo/Reposado are great. Rum wise I've enjoyed.Ron Zacapa. I kept the empty bottle so I can remember it.

I have and enjoyed it. Those specialty MM are definitely a step above the original MM.

If you're also interested in getting into rye, pick up a Bulleit 12 year rye and a Sagamore Double Oak. They should be about $55 and $65 respectively, and won't blow your pants off if you're not used to drinking high proof whiskey (they are both below 100 proof).
