Wife and I are going to be in the Bywater area tonight and were thinking about checking it out as I've heard good things, and I don't feel like going to Maurepas as we've been there too much recently.

Anyone been? Thoughts? What did you like and not like?

It's okay, but not as good as Maurepas.

I thought they had too many fried dishes, and too much stuff that really didn't complement each other. Nothing I had was bad, though. It's good snacks with drinks, not so much, though, if you're looking to have a complete meal.

Bet that place is a tough ticket on a Friday night right now. OP go hit up Mariza for me instead and give us a report.

Went last night. Crawfish Empanadas are very good. Place will be packed tonight. Its a great neighborhood spot. Eclectic menu, good drinks and fairly inexpensive.

Wife is already on board with Booty's. If its TOO packed we will give Mariza a go.

We have to be somewhere at 8 so we are going at like 6-6:30...usually that's just ahead of the pop in the Bywater.

That's what I'm sayin brah, you got to stay ahead of the curve. Booty's has been open for like 5 months, they haven't found Mariza yet. On a serious note though, if its as good as the criminally oft-forgotten Iris, that would be swell.

I liked it a lot. The banh mi was very good, as were most of the dishes. Nice atmosphere without being pretentious, and nice menu that hits on major themes without being crass. Very good vibe and liked the staff a lot. Will be going back and enjoying.

Haha. No.

Wife's friend has a dance routine/show at Cafe Istanbul. I stick out like a sore thumb being a Lakeview close to middle aged preppy...but the Bywater has awesome food options.

The thing about hipsters is that, for the most part, no one cares. They get a bad reputation, and they are extremely easy to make fun of, but most are just kids and nice. I did have one accuse me of being a "poser" one time at Mimi's. I told him to look around, everyone is dressed like him. Now...who is the poser?

But seriously, the Bywater is definitely where its at right now for interesting food.

I like Maurepas a lot, and to a lesser extent Suis Generis. I need to make it to Bacchanal one of these days.

I went for brunch..it was alright. I'd rather go to Maurepas as someone said. Creative plates though, I just wasn't that blown away

The only time I've ever been bothered by a hipster was this Mardi Gras when one guy tried to cut me in a port a potty line at R Bar and tried to legitimately justify it because "my costume is bad arse." I was like bitch please gtfo.

Cool place.

The food was good but not spectacular or anything. I would definitely go back as there are about 10 things I didn't try that I want to. Gazpacho and the Gundamum were good.

Ended the night at Kajun's on St Claude, which was one of the weirdest experiences of my life.
