The secret to a good crawfish boil is using good peanut butter. None of that cheap great value or Peter Pan garbage. Moms like you choose JIFF for a reason. Also make sure you have the jumbo marshmallows to throw in the last 5 minutes of soaking. The miniatures don’t hold up well.

Just buy them cooked from Rouse's. They are better than anything people make themselves.

Rouse's doesn't clean their crawfish. We got a bunch of muddy ones and my wife won't buy them there anymore.

Be sure to throw em in a Yeti while they’re piping hot and toss em with Tony’s. Only way to make em good.

Don’t bring them back to a boil and boil for X amount of time.

See a few bubbles and steam then cut the fire. Let them cook while they soak. Soak till they sink checking along the way to make sure they don’t over cook.

Season the amount of water not the amount of crawfish cooked. So more than just 1 bag/canister. Add extra like mentioned above.

I want to try celery seed I have seen it mentioned a few times.

Here’s something simple/dumb. How much water goes in the pot?

Roughly half a pot of water. Depends on the size of pot, amount of crawfish, extras etc. But that's a good starting point.

Test it out before hand if you have time. Put crawfish in the basket after washing. Put in the pot and fill it up so you have room for veggies as well. Pull basket and note where the water line is. Then if you want use a gallon jug to see how much water that is. I put around 10gallons in mine. And on a canister of Cajun land it said it’s good for 7 gallons of water hence adding extra to the pot is needed.

Why do people think all baskets are made exactly the same? You don’t think some baskets have more / less holes than others?

I would share with you, but then I would have some idiot criticize my recipe and tell me how he and his travel ball bros do it different and better. I would then have to meet him at sonic and check his knuckles. Good luck

Thanks for the replies. Nobody has gotten sick yet so I guess it was a success. Happy wife so you all know how that goes

Something pretty obvious that didn’t occur to me at the time....I didn’t realize how many crawfish boiling experts I know. Friends wanted to get together, nobody seemed to want to host so I volunteered. They show up and lo and behold, I’ve got 4 or 5 guys telling me 4 or 5 different methods that are all different from the one I’m following. Who knew?

Welcome to the worst part of boiling crawfish

I usually just ignore them, and keep doing what I’m doing. If it’s someone who is genuinely curious about my method and why I do certain things I will explain it to them.
