Going to the SEC tournament next month. What are some top eating places in the area?

I had a thread over a year ago asking about lunch places in Montgomery. I learned about “meat and three”, which is basically Alabama’s version of a plate lunch.
I enjoyed the local place I went to in Montgomery very much. Some others who are familiar with the area may know where to go.

Big Bad Breakfast
These are our three places not to miss.

Gianmarcos is really good. I’d get a reservation or try and get a spot in the wine bar out back. Demetris > big bad breakfast imo.
If you don’t mind going closer to downtown I’d try hot and hot, ovenbird or bottega.
Downtown has Paramount, a cool sports bar/grill, el barrio, Helen, bamboo, la fresca, east west.

Hwy 150 and Lorna Rd constitute the best ethnic dining in all of Birmingham, IMO.
Tortugas Pizza for the best deep dish outside of Chicago.
Jake's Soul Food Cafe. Get the ox tails if they aren't sold out.
Silver Coin is the best Indian food in town.
Blue Pacific is fresh Thai food.
Pollo Lucas has amazing chicken (I think it's Peruvian?)
If you want to venture out of Hoover, let us know. It would help to know about where you are staying.

i was there for a job interview a few months back and had dinner at the highlands.
it was not bad, but i was left a little disappointed as i had heard glowing things about it.
Not a Highlands fan or Chez FonFon which both get a lot of love.

I'd be impressed if he was able to dine at Highlands considering they've been closed since Covid.

Do you happen to enjoy pizza? Tortuga’s makes a fine Chicago deep dish pizza in a cool Chicago sports-themed place. If Chicago isn’t your thing, Troup’s Pizza (near Hoover) is A++. That’s where you’ll find me.

Troup’s Pizza
My wife and I graduated college with the owner and know them very well. You can find me there at the Party on the Patio every Thursday they have it.

Just recently discovered Troup's. They have a good little lunch special. Slice of Pepperoni or cheese, and a side salad (4 or 5 different ones to choose from) and a fountain drink for around $10-12. Pretty large slices as well. I haven't tried anything outside of their pizza, but looking at neighboring tables, everything looks great. It isn't going to be convenient to the Met, but worth a drive over if you'll be in town several days.

Troup’s is a gem.
The Battery in Homewood is legit as well.

Love the Battery. They have done a fantastic job there. Their brunch chicken and french toast dish is delicious.
