Frankly, I just don't get it.
Learn to cook well on a ceramic grill/smoker and you'll get it, doesn't have to be a BGE. I gave away my new gas grill and a horizontal metal smoker a week after buying a Primo Oval XL.

Snob appeal has a lot to do with it. It costs a lot, does a good job, so if I have one my pee-pee is bigger than your pee-pee. But, I'm wired into minimalism, I can do better than you with a lot less.
My wife has been dying to buy me one, or the equivalent, for years. Anniversary and Father's day is coming up and I have to remind her, NO.
My best friend has a Kamodo Joe and loves it, nothing against people who enjoy theirs, I just enjoy doing with less.

Sorry, but my Igloo Max keeps things cold very well an I can buy several for the cost of your Yeti
No cooler is worth the price of a yeti
But hey, glad you like yours

I have one and I love it. Never thought about snob appeal. I got it as a gift, but I was going to buy one. I took down the sign in my yard letting people know I was a BGE owner. Too many people showing up for free meals.

I don't think my pee-pee is bigger than yours. At least, I hope not.
Andouille, you know I'm just messin' with you, but I do LOVE my BGE!

Reverse snob much? I hope with that minimalist attitude you're raising and butchering your own meat. That would be taking it to the next level. Heck if you ask me nice enough, I might know of a source of flint so that you can start your fire.
All bs aside, I like the BGE because it is so versatile, from Thanksgiving turkey, to ribs, pork butt, and even pizza. When you learn how to use it properly, you won't want to use anything else.
Before I got the egg, I used a weber kettle for ribs, boston butt, etc., but I would never try a 20 pound turkey on it. Just saying.

If you want to keep something cool for a long time buy a Igloo Max, if you never leave home. If you tend to abuse a cooler buy a Yeti.
I know a guy that had a Igloo max and a Yeti go out the back of a truck on the interstate at about 70 mph. The Igloo turned into confetti and he still uses the Yeti.

Cooler torture.

I have a Kamado Joe and love it. My gas grill has been sent to t he shed. Just like the BGE, the KJ works the same way. I use the fire starters they sell, and I'm grilling in 10-15 min. Oh, and food tastes better on the ceramic cookers regardless of brand. Worth every cent IMHO.

He can destroy 5 or 6 igloo coolers an still not spend as much as he did on a yeti

I own a yeti but dont see the big deal about them. I rarely need a cooler to keep something cold more than a day or two. It's probably worth it to people who need ice for ten days but that's just not me. Op- i got my green egg on craigslist for next to nothing. I use it almost as much as my stove. Food comes out perfect and makes me look like a much better cook than i am.

For the average day no you do not need a Yeti but when you go hunting and fishing out West or to Alaska you better have a cooler that will take some abuse. If you are a week away from civilization and your cooler fails it sucks mightily. But I agree you do not need a Yeti for a backyard cookout where you can just run to the store and get more ice if Aunt Betty bumps into your igloo and breaks the hinges off of it.

I have a BGE and a house full of Mac's. What do I win? I thought about going triple threat with a Yeti, but got this beast instead
I really only use coolers for game days and i was tired of carrying my shite. If i was a real OT baller i would've gotten a golf cart instead i guess.

quote:You're making my point for me. It comes down to price, not function. There are no yeti rivals. If you fished you'd know how long a yeti keeps ice, that it's tough as nails (doubles as a chair/ladder), it's human and bear proof (Can use a large lock on it), has a rubber seal, etc. An igloo cannot compare and for an outdoorsman a yeti is certainly worth it.

Weird
I've been hunting and fishing for 30 years and have managed just fine without a yeti
But enjoy your status symbol, uh, I mean cooler

I didn't understand until I cooked on a ceramic grill. Nothing compares!

My dad lived 30 years without Air conditioning or Yeti coolers. As long as I can afford them I will enjoy both.

I'm busted. Don't butcher yet, the fascist homeowners association agreement I signed to move in here would frown. I do enjoy curing my hams, corned beef, stuffing sausage etc..
I just can't get enough minimalism.

So you don't want a superior product because it is a symbol of superiority and fine craftsmanship or you don't want to/can't spend the money? Sounds like your reasoning is the former. Must suck missing out on a revolutionary product because you might lose redneck cred. A status symbol? Personally, I buy tools and use them based on their function. I'm not big on judging the accessories of males and whether or not they are faux pas; but to each his own. I'm content with the greatest ice chest in the history of time.
