I’m in the market for either a smobot or flameboss. Can you share your experiences and preference with either?

It looks like the smo bot may be the better set up for grilling away from outlets

I have a flameboss and no complaints. It is annoying if you haven’t used it in a while having to wait for the updates to install but I am impatient.

I've used the flameboss before. No complaints

I currently have Thermowork's Signals & Billows combo. Really enjoy it, more so than the flameboss. The app has alot of functionality, and they set up a beta website for users to help update & improve the app

I have flameboss and love it. Would buy again without hesitation. There’s a guy on egghead forum that sells them for a little cheaper than most. He quoted my $299 shipped for the fb500.

Smobot is the best out there in terms of coal efficiency.

I have the BBQ Guru DigiQ, and love it. If I were me, I would get the UltraQ at about the same price as the Pitboss 500. It also has a battery option.

Heres a review comparing the Flameboss to the UltraQ.

Compare controllers

I dont know if the reviewer is biased, but there is good information in there.

I bought a digiQ for $300 when they first came out. Then it got rained on one night when it wasn’t suppose to rain. They’re nice but way overpriced. I ended up getting the cheaper partyQ that runs on AA batteries. Works fine. Not sure they make it anymore.

Being able to watch it from your phone or change temp when you’re gone is cool and all, but once it’s dialed in, the cheaper non WiFi models are rock solid.

Definitely biased as they sell guru and not flameboss. All the online reviews I found were biased by who sponsored them. Both are good systems though.
