Best sushi in Baton Rouge

Tokyo Cafe on Bluebonnet, right across the street from Perkins Rowe. In the same strip mall as Buffalo Wild Wings.
Tried it for the first time tonight. Blows hello sushi, drunken fish, sushiyama, etc... out of the water.
The LSU roll has fried oyster in it and it's topped with this crazy blueberry sauce. Delicious.
And the fish is very fresh and tasty.

Ichiban kicks it's arse. Tokyo Cafe was mediocre at best IMO.

Sushi Yama is the correct answer.
I'd put Ichiban way ahead of Tokyo Cafe also.

My wife just informed me that I may have been a little harsh in my review of Tokyo Cafe. She liked it, it wasn't bad.
Icihiban's is good too. I need to watch how negative I am somtimes.

I eat at all the ones in the BR sushi district a lot.
Yama is probably the best of the bunch. I put Ichiban and Toyko about the same. There are items that each do well. The Habachi at Toyko is much better than Ichiban. Toyko sucks at spicy crunchy anything. But their Dynamite Roll is a great value roll and the cowboy roll is one of the best rolls in the city as well as they have a good stock of nice fresh toro always available. Ichiban's rolls are a bit tighter and better on the classics. Yama has the best sashimi but their rolls can be tiny but still good. After those you have Sakura, Sake cafe and if you want Kona in the district. I owuld rather choose from the other three.

Catman, I hear everyone say Yama is the best. What do you like about it?
We ate there not too long ago and I thought it was EXACTLY like Kamados. The chef used to be at Kamados in fact. Not that this is a bad thing but I just didn't get why everyone said it was so much better than everything else.

I like the balance of vinegar in the rice mainly. There fish seems to always be more fresh than most as well and the rolls are always nicely packed tight. What I dont like there is that the prices are a bit high for what you get and the rolls can be very very small (maybe packed too tight) I have left hungry there before.
Toyko seems to be mroe of value in what you get. Although their rolls can be sometimes sloppy. The Dynamite roll would probably be a 9 dollar roll at Tsunami but its a 5 dollar roll there. The Cowboy roll with filet minion is a monster and they have some other nice rolls like the dancing roll. But Tokyo is a roll place. The sashimi is ok. Yama is a much better sashimi place and Nigiri is much better (mainly because I like the rice and the fish freshness better)

Sushi Yama is great, Ichiban is pretty solid. I like Drunken Fish more than most do I think. Tokyo Cafe was disappointing last time I went.

My least favorite... tried it a few times & can't make myself like it.
Agreed that Sushi Yama seemed exactly like Kamados- maybe I need to try it again. I haven't been there in awhile.

Definitely Ichiban. But I would say Tokyo Cafe is a close second. They have this Cowboy Roll that is topped w/ filet mignon--Fantastic! For me, Sushi Yama, Kamados, and Kotos round out the top five in no particular order. Sushi Yama takes a hit though because I've been twice and had some of the worst service ever.
