Hanger and skirt at La Boca are excellent too if you want something different and can stomach paying a commie.

first time I went there it was awesome. second time I went there they sent me an overcooked steak. the waitress noticed and sent it back. came back again overcooked. sent back again and came back overcooked. at that point they just gave up and said we arent going to charge you. pretty sad service for that type of restaurant.

How is Charlies Steakhouse doing? I haven't been in over 20yrears. I never think about if that means anything.

I've gotten to where, for sort of grungy old school New Orleans steakhouses, Crescent City > Charlies.
At least at Crescent City you sort of feel like you're getting what you pay for. Charlies seems like it's now as expensive as many higher end places.

Do people still go to steakhouses?
It’s never as good as when you do it at home and quadruple the price.

Good question.
Steakhouses are such a 90’s thing.

The effort to make 3-4 different sides, cocktails, plus secure each quality cut adds up a lot of time. Not to mention the service and cleanup aspect.
Will never be cheaper than doing it at home, but I have never been to a single restaurant that can really undercut what I can pull off at home. Steak or other.

yep, I agree, especially the sides.

I cooked a prime strip last night that was as good or better than any I have had at a restaurant. The only place I can think of that was close was Mr. Lesters back in the day.

There's a lot of history in those booths

Wife and I were just discussing this while splitting a 1lb prime NY strip at home a couple nights ago. We had loaded baked potato and salad for sides. Our cocktails consist of pouring whiskey or wine in a glass most of the time, so not much time savings there
The steak was $17, spent another $10 on the sides, and of course no money on the booze from our bar. Active cooking time was only about 15 minutes for all of it. Clean up was one frying pan, one baking pan, one mixing bowl for the salad, and two plates and glasses. We figured we got a solid 75% of what we want when going to a steak house with this meal. We typically spend $200+ after everything going to a steak house, but there's certainly times where that extra cost is warranted.
No real point to this story other than basically agreeing with you

Of all the places we tried in the city over the years, Galatoire's had the best steak by far.
Outside of the City, it's a ways away, but Mr. Lester's still holds the trophy for the best steak I've ever had in a restaurant. Re-confirmed a few times over the years.
