Good morning food and drinks board.
Looks like I'm going to wind up with some time to kill on a Friday in Atlanta, what's the boards take on best spots for lunch and day drinking before an evening flight. Complete open book for what kind of food and drinks.
And yes, I know I'm trashy for day drinking.

How much time we talking? Getting out of that airport, and back through security, can be a major pain in the arse. If it's 4-5 hours I would kill it in the airport. In a SkyClub, preferably..

How close to the airport are we talking? Because the airport itself might have your best options.

One of the best pizza places I’ve been to is in the Airport. Look for a piano and pilots, 2nd terminal as I remember , la Familia?

Agree. And if not Sky Club there are good options in the airport. Lots of them.
If you enough time to be asking this you could just take the train into town.

Sam Adam's Brewhouse in the ATL airport. The areas immediately surrounding the airport are not the best from what I recall.

I'd say anything less than 6 hours, stay in the airport. There are plenty of good options there.
If you want to leave, you're taking a minimum 20 minute ride north to multiple different location options. Then you gotta deal with getting back to your terminal.

Maybe because I live here and go to the airport many times per year, I don’t have the best perspective for someone traveling through.
But, taking the train into town would not be that difficult.
But if someone is a 2 hours before flight type, like I am, I think you are spot on with the 6 hours. Or maybe 5.
30 minutes to destination
2 hours at destination
30 minutes back

The Corner Grill in College Park might be an option if you just want to get out of the airport. You could take MARTA to get there and it is very close to the airport.
Zab-e-lee is a good Thai and sushi place, but it's in a very sketchy, run down strip mall and you'd need a car to get there.
Your best option might be to stay in the airport.

Varasano's Pizzeria in Terminal A. Great pizza. Nice bar.
Piano Bar is next door.
