Best “specialty flavor” king cake you’ve tried?

Every day at work someone brings in a new flavor. Today a guy brought a Banana Moon Pie king cake from Rouses that was terrible. Over the past couple of weeks we’ve had Bananas Foster king cake from Thee Heavenly Donut (it tasted good, but was basically just a giant donut), Mississippi Mud from Calandro’s (pretty good), and my favorite so far, “Little Italy” from Calandro’s. Guy tomorrow said he’s bringing a “Touchdown” from Calandro’s. Here’s a link to the Calandro’s flavor list, for reference:

It’s my turn next week... any suggestions?

There's a local couple here in BR that bakes artisan bread and pastries for you to pick up once per week, and their king cakes are legit.

My favorites in years past were the Raspberry Rose Frangipane, the Blueberry Cardamom Cream (with dark chocolate and halva), and the Balsamic Strawberry.

They're sold out for tomorrow's pickup but this week's sounded good: Apple Rosemary & Bourbon Salted Caramel [or] Cherry Apricot Preserves w Cream Cheese and Walnut Ginger Streusel

I had some amaretto almond king cake a couple years ago and i got a second piece. I never get a second piece. Never got the brand. I still think about it from time to time. Kind of like a one night stand that was too good to be true that doesnt call you back ever again.

Someone recommended Oak Point last week and I stopped by on a whim. They were stocking the shelves with the fresh cakes and I asked a couple of them what the best flavors were. The majority agreed on the strawberry cream cheese. I was not disappoint

Amaretto Walnut from Keller’s in Lafayette. Just had it for the first time last weekend on a friend’s recommendation. Delicious. The pastry itself is really well done too...We got a plain as well, and it’s one of the best I’ve had.

amaretto almond king cake

I had this a few days ago from Gambino's Bakery. It was pretty solid. The only other king cake this year I had was Caluda's Cookie Dough filled king cake which was also solid.
