That is a great smoker, but if I were buying one now, I would go with the 1000. You get almost twice the cooking space + an additional 2 years of warranty for just $200 more.

And they have a much better warranty than the 1 year joke that Masterbuilt offers.

Honest question, have you ever used a warranty on anything?

They are normally selling points so they can say “look at this warranty,” but rarely does any warranty get used. And no warranty will cover general wear and tear.

The RecTec warranty is a limited warranty and Limited warranty it only covers defects in material and workmanship and “does not apply to paint or damage caused from corrosion.” Basically it may cover the PID controller

i have a stand up pit boss. $399. it holds 40lbs of pellets. I cook my briskets and pork shoulders overnight. 40lbs is like 40hrs of smoking. so i dont have to worry about not keeping temp over night. love my pellet smoker.

Depends on the charcoal you use, but I’ve had no problems putting a brisket on, going to bed, and reloading in the morning

I wouldn’t say they’re built to last but that’s fine because it’s not overly expensive

Gravity smoker seems to check the boxes of what you’re wanting

Chargriller makes one that feels a little sturdier but I haven’t used one

I have the Gravity 800 and frick going back to the old school smokers.
Best cooking implement I have ever owned. Unless someone builds a better one, I will get another when this one wears out.

Recteq is a popular brand pellet smoker on this board. I also happen to have their bullseye which is a great value smoker to start out on. However the entry level bullseye does not have WiFi capability.

We've had a Recteq with WiFi capabilities for about 2 1/2 years now (bought it right after we moved into our house).

We absolutely love it. Use it year around. Would absolutely recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind using a pellet smoker.

What’s the biggest difference between pellet and charcoal/wood chunk smokers? Charcoal/wood chunks will give a stronger smoke flavor I’m assuming?

The pellets are just pressed wood dust, although cheaper pellets put wood oil to make the fragrance. The gravity you can use actual smoking wood pieces.

In theory they should be the same as a stick burner because it’s all wood. But the pellet grills just dont give a lot of smoke flavor without additional tubes.

However, most casual bbq eaters couldnt tell you the difference between the stick burner, gravity, or pellet cooked meat. It’s actually the reason I quit using my stick burner. I just like my Gravity smoker because I can just pick up charcoal and whatever smoking wood I want and it comes out great.

I will say though, the RecTec build quality is fantastic.

Thank you! I’ll do some more research and will come back if I have additional questions. I’m leaning towards a gravity fed smoker bc I don’t like the idea of oils and chemicals being in the pellets. I know I’m not gonna avoid that either way but I also like the idea of being able to add my own stuff to it.

Yes. Several things. Mainly vehicles and their parts, but a few months ago I used the warranty that my laptop came with because the cooling fan started making odd noises and needed replacing.

In regards to RecTeq, I'm in a Facebook group of RecTeq users. Several of them have used their warranty for replacing things such as augers, PIDs, and warped heat deflectors. I have also seen one of the owners of RecTeq (Ray) monitoring that group and other RecTeq groups and I've seen him reach out to pretty much everyone that mentions having a problem with their smoker. Ray even sent a replacement auger to someone that complained about the one in their Pit Boss going bad.

For those that use smoke tubes, do you use 1 or 2 for a cook?

This is what I have and I'm cooking on it as I write this.

I love mine.

I’m definitely leaning towards the Masterbuilt 1050 one. The rotisserie attachment sold me because I’d love to smoke my own chickens for gumbo.
All the research I’ve done so far makes me think more and more that this one is the one for me.

Yes, and if you equip it with an Auber, it will do everything the OP is asking for. Get the 22.
