Need to buy a gift for a friend who likes dark rum. I drink bourbon and know nothing about the world of rum. Anyone point me in the right direction? Price point ~$150 on under. Thanks in advance.

That’s... a lot of money for rum.

I really enjoy angostura 1824 but I am far from a rum expert.

El Dorado 15 Special Reserve is excellent. I’m also quite fond of the Pampero Aniversario Reserva Exclusiva. It’s a bit less costly than the El Dorado and comes in a leather bag, so has kind of a cool look, too.

Yep El Dorado 15 is excellent. It's around $50.

Rum in a leather pouch from Venezuela. Great for sipping!

You can grab 23 year old Kirk and Sweeney for around $40-50 and it is great. I’m not really a rum connoisseur but it’s very good.

Rum Ratings rates it as an 8.4/10

Diplomatico Reserva is amazing at around $50. You can also order the muy delicioso Santiago de Cuba 12yr and Havana Club Maestros online.

Ron Zacapa XO if you're willing to spend that. $80-$100 depending on where you go.

That Diplomatico is f***ing fantastic if you can tolerate sweetness.

Havana Club

Bumbu is relatively new to the market but it’s def a change of pace. String banana flavor, but not an issue if you’re sipping and like bananas

I had a Zacapa 23 in the Caribbean and I found it very sweet. It tasted like there were sugar crystals in the glass.

I have a rum collection, and the best bang for the buck is Zaya from Trinidad.
Super smooth like a whiskey.
