Any Flor de Cana 7 yrs and up is wonderful neat. Less than 7 makes great mixer.

Foursquare Rum is my favorite by far. The 2004 and the 2005 are both amazing in my opinion. I also like the older Appleton Estate stuff too.

Giving as a gift I would go with Havana Club. Not the Bacardi version but the Havana Club Rum made in Cuba. I can help you acquire a bottle if you want to go this route.
