Which is why I said city blocks.
Magazine to Gautreau's is .6 miles, which is six city blocks.

It is 11 blocks, but they're small blocks and is .6 miles.
It may not be a big deal to him to walk half a mile when with buddies or whatever, but with a wife and two kids in tow, its a much different story. Also, sounds like they will be doing some walking on Magazine. I don't think you thought this all the way through TulaneLSU.

Thanks for all of the suggestions folks.
I have decided to book a night at a bed and breakfast on St. Charles Ave. Saturday and will keep my Gautreau's reservations. And yes, we will probably walk to the restaurant.
Being that dinner is not until 8:30, we will probably stop into one of the previously mentioned restaurants for a late afternoon round of appetizers and drinks while shopping.
It is only 4 or so miles from my house, but it is amazing what staying a nice place away from home will do for a woman and her mood. :)

You gotta shell out a couple hundred bucks for a hotel room for nookie?

Of course not jackass.
It's our anniversary and I'm trying to take care of the little lady.

In that case congratulations and carry on.

nfortunately, yes.
What was the problem? Ive only eaten there once and I had about the best bowl of pasta Ive ever had. One of my friends dad from college owns it, and 6 other restaurants in the city.

What other 6 restaurants?

We were sitting there with his dad, and he ordered a bunch of food for all of us. They put down a bowl of pasta that was pretty much spaghetti with lamb in it, in front of me so I ate it. It was spectacular. From their menu:
Byblos Pasta - $12.00
Pasta, topped with a unique blend of Lamb, Beef, fresh tomatoes and Mediterranean herbs & spices.
The only other ones I remember are Camelia Grille and half of NOLA.

New Orleans is a walking town
Really? With the hood mixed in just blocks from many nice areas.. With sidewalks that have to be among the worst in the country. With the number of fatass people in the city.. I just want to know in what way is New Orleans a walking town?

While I don't know that I'd categorize it as a true "walking town" ala somewhere like New York City, it's certainly a more pedestrian friendly place (its cracked sidewalks and interspersed demographics notwithstanding) than say, Houston, Atlanta, and - God knows - Baton Rouge.

Definitely a walking town. It's relatively dense, compact, and I imagine zoned pretty strictly, because commercial shops tend to be tightly clustered together. Now this doesn't hold true in, say, Lakeview, or out of the city limits. The bad condition of the sidewalks doesn't really enter into it, if only because the streets are even worse condition and it's easier to avoid a pothole on foot than driving
And Baton Rouge is clearly the least walking-friendly city I've ever been to in my life. Of course, its also in the bottom 5 in terms of drivability. And good luck trying to get anywhere on a bike. I always say BR is a great place to live if you never plan on leaving your house.
