I've honestly found that for the time and effort it takes to make a good pot of red beans, I really can't make them any better than if I just took a can of Blue Runner and added stuff to it. I'm sure that will get criticized by the F&D elite on here, but I'm a big fan of the Blue Runner red beans.

Chef Paul Prudhomme's recipe from Louisiana Kitchen is by far the best recipe that I have found. Don't have it handy but you might be able to find it on the web.

I hear you. Am waiting to get bashed for just asking the question! Don't know if you can get "Blue Runner" red beans here, but I'll check it out. Thanks for your help. Geaux Tigers!

Whatever you do, brown the andouille and ham hocks first!

What Eddie V said. PP's has by far the best flavor I've found. I use good sausage and some smoked hocks for meat and seasoning.

that ham stock, made with some quality smoked hocks, is one of keys that makes that recipe great.

Prudhommes is the best
But honestly adding trinity, garlic and some ham grease to blue runners is pretty damn good.

I use a slow cooker. I may be biased but I think they're better than 99% of stove top cooked beans.
