Brisket House

I mean I don't know if I'd send an out of towner to Brisket House.

Is it good? Sure, does the trick for lunch out in Deer Park were options aren't the best (yes I know the first Houston location was in Memorial).

Just ate at BCN Taste and Tradition. Spanish place but one of the better meals I’ve ever had.

Houston has some amazing BBQ joints.

Feges in Greenway Plaza at lunchtime, and I THINK they have a Heights location.

Feges is great. They're in the process of opening a 2nd location in Spring Branch, not Heights.

North end of Downtown has La Calle Tacos, try the Birria Tacos. Also go next door and grab a beer at Craft Beer Cellar and order a Birria Grilled Cheese.

Have you done MAD? (I think it’s technically called From Mad to the Moon?). Place looks wild in the photos. Booked it for late night dessert.

Took your advice and ditched Tony’s. Doing Ostia and Hugo’s instead.

Nice...you won’t be disappointed with Ostia. Been a while since I’ve been to one of Hugo’s places outside of a Sunday brunch (RIP brunch buffet).

Once...take out though...so probably not the best version of their food.

Pre rona my wife and I had reservations but bailed last minute and ended up at UBPreserv or somewhere in our neighborhood.

River Oaks District just isn’t my scene...we’re mid thirties with two kids so get the frick off my lawn.

I am not familiar with River Oaks, but we are childless and like to party so that sounds great Though at 30 and 39 we might not fit in. Haha. By your comment, I take it to mean there’s a lot of stuff over there? Good to know.

These are two desserts at the Mad place. The bottom one you break open and the dessert comes oozing out. Lol.

Plus they have a DJ and whatnot — very my thing.

Still have one lunch spot open, ideally casual-ish. Maybe Heights area.

Barnabys has some good food. If you’re going to be in the Heights, don’t plan to much and just find a place that looks interesting and try it. The Heights is a strange place that I really like, but keep it spontaneous. I never go there looking to do anything specific and always end up having a good time. Last time I was there, I ended up at a Magic shop and some really crafty place next door. Ended up with some really cool house decorations that I had no intentions of buying when that day started.

I’ve seen this place from the interstate and it’s on my list of places to try. It seems like a very popular place, even in these times where staying home seems to be the most popular.

I think I picked a good time to move to Houston because nothing is really crowded.

It’s okay. Felt like they spend more time making a production of dinner compared to the food. I found that BCN was much better. It’s the same people who run both.

And btw, it’s MAD as in the airport code for Madrid. Just like BCN is the airport code for Barcelona. They both Spanish restaurants.

I haven’t seen Oporto mentioned. I really enjoy it. It’s a Portuguese restaurant essentially downtown. Just on the other side of 45 technically

Ah. That’s good to know.

Glad I only booked dessert then :) I basically just want to see the building.

The dinner items looked a little too weird for me and I’m adventurous. There’s a dish with like 60 baby eels on it. I could never.

Haha. We actually ordered that. It was okay. But my wife, who is Vietnamese and never squeamish, had to step away on that one. She likes eel but didn’t expect it to look like black spaghetti.

That and the restroom were the two most memorable things. You’ll know what I mean when you visit the restroom.

C’mon man, you can’t do this to us. What’s up with restrooms?

River Oaks District is like Perkins Rowe...but replace Kendra Scott and Anthropologie with college kids with Cartier and Hermes and sugar babies if that gives you an idea of what you’re working with there.

Haha. Fair enough.

It was just the way it was decorated. Or at least the corridor. Again, I felt the food played second fiddle to the decor. I’ll find a pic online

If you looking for something unique, do some digging on Neo. They don’t promote much so it might be hard to find. Try Instagram

Essentially it’s a 6 person omakase off of Waugh. They are dry aging fish which I’ve never heard of. 19 courses. I can’t imagine many places or cities are doing this.

It’s not cheap.
