Corporate Brew and Draft - Best selection of draft beer in the city. Staff is very knowledgeable of the beers they have on tap. Good place to just sit and drink good beer. 5 ounce pours are great for trying different beers. Other places should have this option.
Bulldog - Gets good beer but plenty of their taps are occupied by garbage beer. Food is good but I find some of the items are way overpriced. Besides Wednesday nights, the crowd seems to be hit or miss. Some Friday nights its dead in there and other nights its slammed. They do have a lot of hot arse that goes there. Some of the staff know beer but most of them dont know jack about beer. Very nice patio and good place to watch a game.
Chimes - Really improved their beer selection the past few years. I wish they would offer smaller pours and improve their beer menu. All it has is a beer name and price(and maybe size). Just adding the type of beer would be great. Or sort them by type. I like the food and it always is a 'yes' when someone mentions going there. Beer and raw oysters cant be beat.
Draft House - Havent been much but its a good setup for a bar. Nice addition to downtown considering the beer around there was seriously lacking. Their selection was pretty surprising because initially the board said it was lackluster. They should offer smaller pours also. Went there to get KBS and all they served it in was pints. In my little experience there, the staff didnt know anything about the beer. Wasnt expecting it though so no big deal.
Pelican House - Honestly I havent been that much this past year or so. I was only in town on the weekends and they had bands playing so I passed. Last time I went the food was very good but we left because a band was coming on. Beer bar and bands dont mesh well. I havent run into the theyre out of the beer problem like people have mentioned on here. Place is nice. Almost too nice imo. I feel like I need to look presentable when I go there. I like the other bars mentioned where I can basically look like a bum and it doesnt matter. Not much of a liquor drinker but they seem to have a decent selection. Very nice patio also.

Yes. One particular a-hole camps out around the area. I think he goes to bed touching himself to throwing people in jail for drinking and driving

Chimes LSU is always my go to because they have a great selection and good food. 80 beers on tap, and there is plenty of variety. They do flights of 5 5oz pours for $10, so you can try several beers that way. And you can always order 13oz or 20oz pours of anything. Relaxing atmosphere and the bartenders generally know their stuff. Chimes East has fewer different taps than Chimes LSU, but they often have a totally different selection.
Corporate Brew and Draft has the best selection of beer. Downside is no food, which, if I'm hanging out for a while, is a big downside. I need to eat if I'm going to drink for a while. Staff is very knowledgeable, and you can get 5oz, 10oz and 20oz pours of any of their beers.
Bulldog is OK, but it seems like every time I go, I see 80 taps and only 5 beers I'm interested in drinking. Food is pricey.
Draft House downtown has a nice atmosphere and an OK selection. They need a better IPA selection for sure. No food.
Red Zeppelin is solid for a pizza joint with 30+ taps.
Olive or Twist has a well thought out selection with their limited taps. They have some solid bottles too.

I think so. It wont be rowdy or anything like Bulldog but they have nice tvs all over and a tv is never far away.

I couldn't agree more.
I don't mind if you have a guy playing the guitar on the patio, but give me an option to get away from the music. Drinking craft beer is a lot like drinking fine wine, or even eating a good meal. The loud music makes it difficult to enjoy.
All of the better taprooms around here don't have live music, except for an occasional special event (maybe). TV's are good, but live music should be in a different type of venue.
Also, one thing I'm getting used to is that many of the taprooms here don't sell their own food. They do, however, allow you to bring your own food, or provide menus for local places that will deliver to you (usually located next door, or within a block). I actually like being able to bring my own food and not be limited to whatever food the taproom kitchen prepares...

for whoever was talking about Corporate Brew not having food, they do this. They let you order from the Lebanese/Greek place in the strip mall and eat it at the bar. I dont know about other restaurants but they do allow this.

They'll let you bring in food from anywhere you want.
You can bring your leftovers from home in a Tupperware if you want.
Also, they serve beer brats and hot dogs which really aren't bad. You just have to be in the mood for that.

They should set up a symbiotic relationship with all of the restaurants in the area. I'm sure people leave CBD to go someplace to eat. They may not go to a place nearby. I'm sure that if they had a delivery set up with the restaurants in the area, it would be beneficial for everyone.
Some taprooms here have food trucks. Belmont Station and Base Camp Brewing have permanent food trucks (Basecamp has two). Uptown Market and Orenco Taphouse have rotating food trucks. Anything to keep the customers in their seat and drinking beer.
