My wife heard a rumor that it was going to be a Starbuck's. I swear to God I'll seriously consider burning it to the ground if it's true.

That would suck and serve no purpose for me. But I was talking about the Rum House folks. Any idea what their new spot next store will be ?

Olive Branch Cafe.

The one is Marerro is the shite.

And the correct answer is the Boot pizza. Nothing is better at 2am than Boot pizza.

Not sure if it is true, but the fact is Magazine St. is being heavily pursued up and down by regional and national chains. On the food side, on the shopping side, etc... Existing biz's get calls daily offering buy outs of leases. Wouldn't surprise me.

One of the big misconceptions about chains and strip malls boils down to "Well, that place is soulless and supports chains because its people are boring." When in fact it really has more to do with the fact that chains and regional brands are the only people willing to pay the rent the landlord or developer places on the property. Sadly, rents are skyrocketing in New Orleans. You can draw your own conclusions.

I don't really understand the greasy pizza crowd.

I don't either. It's not "grease" at all. It's from the cheese.

And those pictures made me want to kill for some pizza.

It's supposed to be sort of a French bistro (with their catering partner) or something close to it. At least that's how it started out. Think they've had a couple of difficulties along the way, although I think they are still planning on opening fairly soon.

Not "the best", but a great little spot is Sugar Park on St. Claude. The owners are from New York City and relocated to the Bywater area. It's really god New York style pizza.

I second this as a spot that deserves a mention. Great pizza and a really interesting menu in general. Went with a group of friends and it was a good time.

I'm guessing this is directed to my comments about the Popeyes possible becoming a Starbucks. Swapping a national chain for another national chain no big deal. Yes Id rather see a local mom and pop or even a local chain open up instead but I'm not going to burn the place down like VOR meantioned. I'd rather see a local chain go in instead of a Starbucks. A Puccino's for instance would put money directly into my small business.

Starbucks does have a better looking and more educated customer base compared to the Popeyes so that's a win win in my book. I mentioned in a previous thread how much Popeyes trash I see in the streets of the neighborhood. No more chicken bones on the side walk with a Starbucks. Plus I can already see the line of good looking women walking between the yoga studio and the Starbucks

If I were a coffee drinker id still take my business to Hey Cafe or Revista. When it all boils down I feel better giving my money to Saints fans instead of Seahawks.

To stay on topic, I could really see a chain pizza place going into the location. Maybe a Lillte Ceaser.

I was just commenting in general that Mag St. is hot amongst national brands (be it food, clothing, etc...). They all want to be there.

This is what happens when you're considered a "growth" market. Can't hurt property values and better then the alternative.

I may reconsider.

ETA: My comment wasn't directed to so called "chains", generally, but to Starbuck's, specifically. Just not a fan.

I hate to see a bunch of chains but it's really not that bad of a thing. While Mag might become a mini Vets blvd it's gonna push the local mom and pops to other areas of town that could use a little revitalization.

Want to protest the first day they are open? We can make signs that say "Seahawk fans drink Starbucks". I'll bring the beer.

I picked up a baby bike trailer at a garage sale before MG. I rigged it up to the back of my fixie and it's set up to haul a keg of PBR.

Some national company bought the 3 shops on magazine at Nashville where Rare Cuts, Parcel & Post, and something else are. They plan on bringing in some NYC store to fill one of the spots.
