Best beers that often shelf-turd or come pre-aged?

At calandros this past weekend, purchased a BCBS, 3 Fonteinen, and saw several fantome’s

Then the typical jolly pumpkins and clown shoes collecting dusk.

Got me thinking, what are the beers that we often over look but are almost always good buys?

I get not wanting to drop $22 on a sour

These, but they are usually old by the time it hits shelves down here. I go to one spot that has CS within a 3 month period of date on bottle. I don't buy it except for that one location.

Jolly Pumpkin. Most if not all of their sours are fantastic. They are a few bucks cheaper at Bin-Q, FWIW.

Most of their beers age really well, sans the ipa’s of course, and some of them need it. Few of their bigger stouts can be a bit boozy

Seems almost all of the European beers outside of a couple brands sit on the shelf for years. I can never find Saison Dupont that is less than a year old. I see a good Nordic (Nogne, Haandybragwhatever) and Italian beers (Birra Del Borgo) that turd, too. You can forget about finding a fresh German or Czech pilsner (clarification: I mean fresh by import standards).

I don't mind stouts having age, though yes, apparently coffee flavors go away.

But for IPAs:

FW Union Jack
Green Flash West Coast
Oscar Blues IPA

Hardly ever find those semi-fresh these days, and that's disappointing because I very much enjoy them.

Also, locally around Carlsbad/Hobbs, New Mexico...Bosque Riverwalker IPA. Love that beer, but it's turded so bad in the Permian you can't get it fresh off the shelves. Fortunately, I local restaurant sells it at a good rate on draft, so can usually get it fresh when eating out.

Outer Darkness can usually be found aged and reasonably priced... and it's delicious with a few years on it.

I'm just not a fan of green bottles. I know it's the belgian thing to do, and i guess they taste better if fresh, but by the time we get a belgian in a green bottle it is sufficiently skunked and takes away from the beer. Also, Calandro's has them on the top shelf next to a big fluorescent light. Not good for the beer.

His beers are hit or miss.
You can get a nice fresh saison or a bottle of vinegar-you never know until you open it.

Rouse's Mid City has a decent German beer selection that turns pretty quickly.

Destihl beers. Maybe their non-sours are supposed to be super malty but I doubt it. I had a freshish Hoperation Overload (delicious) once and haven't had a fresh Destihl since. The Deadhead Imperial Red IPA I drank today was good but still could be described as a malty mess.
