Best BBQ in the Austin Area

Some of the heavy hitters are:
Black's - Lockhart
Kreuz Market - Lockhart
Smitty's Market - Lockhart
Franklin's - Austin
La Barbecue - Austin
Iron Works - Austin
Salt Lick - Driftwood
My favorite by far for overall quality especially the Dino bone is Black's. For the new school barbecue I know most people would say Franklin's and I agree his brisket is the best, however standing in line from 6am-11am is a little ridiculous when the lines are much shorter at La Barbecue and you get the same quality brisket. My least favorite is Salt Lick.

I've eaten there a few times when I wanted something quick and the alternative was McDonald's.

Is Franklin worth the wait or is it mostly hype? What's the best brisket in central TX?

Pretty sure he's trolling with Rudys
Kent Blacks BBQ in San Marcos is quickly moving the scene. He's one of the sons of the original and it's pretty damn good.
Cant remember the name but ate at a place in Fredericksburg last year that was legit

Valentina's is the best BBQ in Austin
Kreuz is still my favorite in Lockhart
Cant get behind Salt Lick, although they do have the best BBQ Sauce of them all

no shite
I might get Austin as my work territory and if i do, i will invite 2-3 of my accounts to meet me in line and knock out business meetings and then buy them lunch. Thats the only way i can think of making it productive for me to justify the trip.

Valentina's Tex Mex BBQ is opening a location soon, if they haven't already.
I love Salt Lick out in Driftwood. I want to go back to Black's soon too.

Franklin's is the best brisket in Central Texas. The wait isn't worth it when La Barbecue has at most a 30min wait with almost as good of brisket.

Back when I was in the Army we would fly to San Marcos and use the airport courtesy car just to go to Kent Black's.

Keep these coming I am heading that way tomorrow for a BBQ tour. Going to try as many as I can for 3 days. So far added Kent Blacks to my list. I am not going to Franklins though I hate lines

I very rarely ever eat pork ribs here in Texas. They are always mediocre. My three tasting samples to rank a BBQ joint is #1 Brisket, #2 beef ribs, #3 sausage.

Salt Lick is #1 but I love Lamberts on 2nd.
