How is that bad advice? J. Alexander's is widely known on this board and on the streets to have consistently good food. Where have you been?

Drive out to Roberto's in St. Gabriel. I put it ahead of any of these other places listed.

I like Roberto's a lot but if you're going to go out the way you might as well go a little further and just go to Houmas House.

Lagniappe > Parrains

x1000

Parrains is nasty. All fried food.

Mike Andersons is better than Parrains

Also, Juban's is great for high end cajun french.

You're opinion is based on crap. Parrains menu is not "all fried" in any sense. Have you ever eaten there?

Mike Anderson's was shite when I lived there.

Parrain's was pretty solid my last visit. As I recall, in our party of four nobody had anything fried. I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Yeah I like Roberto's but I'm not sure it's all that much better than Parrains or Roux 61. The crabmeat & alligator sausage cheesecake I had at Roux 61 is better than anything I've had at Roberto's.

Looking for LA style seafood. Seafood platters, stuffed fish, etc.

I will get crucified for this, but Mike Anderson's is hard to beat for a huge seafood platter. Their stuffed "fillet" that used to be called stuffed "flounder" is great.

ETA: I see the talk about Parrain's being nasty and Mike A's being better. I won't go that far. But Mike A's has great fried seafood and pretty good oysters. So does Parrain's. I just think that Mike A's gets shite on unreasonably here.

Fill in the blank. I swear we have some people here who think every meal has to be an event.

FWIW, the Mike Anderson's in Gonzales is 100x better than the one in BR

When I have out of towners trying to get a fun "Louisiana" meal, I take them to the Chimes (I go Chimes East, cause it tends to be less of a hassle to get there, but either one is fine). Fried food is delicious, and they have a plenty of other dishes to appease most tastes. And if you go there, don't be scared of ordering Appetizers. Blackened Alligator, Sauteed Crabfingers, or the Boudin balls.

Went to Roux 61 last week and it was solid. Parrains had been my go-to, but Roux 61 may have it beat.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: it is a travesty that they didn't call the Baton Rouge location Rouxbonnet.
