Have gone twice now in 3 days.

Picked up a roast beef poboy and gravy fries which were both awesome.

Tonight I went with friends and got the shrimp poboy; best I've had in BR.

I'll give this place another shot in a month or so...went on Saturday I had roast beef poboy and husband had cheeseburger. I liked mine it had had great flavor but I realized I'm not a fan of how messy snd soggy it gets. My husband said the burger was ok, not as good as he hoped...he did eat it all and it was big so...They need to completely get rid of any Sangria signs etc. The place could have used some new paint and a scrub down, they needed to fix the bathrooms and clean them too oh and put tp in the dispenser. You can definetly tell Sangria as food flopped and turned more into a bar. Now you can definetly tell Sangria's owners just did a turn around and kept ttheir staff. Our waiter was very nice and attentive, by watching some of the others we were lucky. Management is a JOKE in there. Just a tad older and too busy flirting with customers. Now the customers when we went were like 12-21yr. olds...acting like it was a bar/frat dinning hall. They felt a little too comfortable in there-making their own drinks etc. Oh and the young frat kid was cursing really loudly about telling some pledge to be more of a gentleman. Anyway I'll go back I want to have another poboy-their bread was legit. Let's hope the manager grows up and puts some rules in place...

I thought the place was plenty nice on the inside, never hit the bathrooms though. Hopefully they will get their act together on the things you mentioned.

It was like walking in the bathroom at a tigerland bar FWIW.

"Bear's Restaurant" in Covington is the original location. Place hasn't changed a bit since 1985. Counter service and be prepared to wait. About 15 small tables, a PAC-MAN machine and large stuffed brown bear in the entrance. No bar, no TVs. This location is without a doubt the best of them all. I'm convinced, has something to do with the fact that they've been cooking their roastbeef in the same pots and pans for 20 years. Hours of operation 11:00am - 2:00pm Tues - Sat. That's it(may have extended their hours, but that's how I remember it) Mostly to-go lunch orders for the working crowd. Then they opened "Bear's Grill and Spirits" in Mandeville probably 5 years ago. Much more of a full service restaurant, waitresses, alcohol, normal hours, larger menu ect... Then another in Slidell a couple of years later. Now one in BR.

Thank you for clarifying this, PokerPastime. I went last Wednesday and called my Dad to tell him about the place. He mentioned he goes to the one in Covington all the time, but when I went to their website they just listed Mandeville and Slidell. I actually went back Sunday for lunch and asked one of the waiters and he told me exactly what you just said. Got the large Ferdie both times and was only able to eat one half...ate the second half after it was in the refrigerator for a day and I swear it tastes just a tad bit better cold.

Matt Watson is the owner of the Mandeville, Slidell and BR(partnership?). He broke away from the family operation in Covington when the Mandeville unit opened in 2006. He then opened Slidell about a year ago, and just recently BR. It is the same family, just different ownership between the Covington restaurant and the others.

Watson said in the BR Business Report that the previous owners of Sangria will handle the bar side....and that Bears will handle the food side.

Seems like this guy bailed Sangrias owners out on this deal.

went last night.

food was great, gravy fries are money.

building is still not a sports bar but maybe they will get it there.

service sucked, took 7 minutes to get a beer and we were 2 of 5 people at the bar. but the food made up for it and the redheaded bartender wasn't too bad to look at

Will they fail because of thier lousy management? Why are these Sangria people in business? They ruined an awesome concept, and now this.
