Looking for recs in Bay St. Louis. Maybe something casual one night, something nicer for another night. Fresh food preferred…no Sysco cut bag and serve crap please.

Friend,

The Sycamore House is the best restaurant in BSL. Surprisingly, they also have the best pizza on the MS Gulf Coast.

Uncle Joes for casual, pizza wings and sandwiches…everything else there is Sysco.

Thorny Oyster for your nice meal.

Drinks during day at TBT.

Trapanis for the casual meal would be better, it can get expensive if you go entree or special…but they have tacos and poboys as well.

You can always pop over to the pass for Hooks as well.

I like Thorny Oyster and Sycamore. I haven’t been to Traps since Tony passed. I’m assuming it’s still the same…. Just solid food.

Thorny Oyster for fancier

I like Field’s for more low key

If you change your mind and want a good selection of beer and some Sysco pizza or gyros the ugly pirate is clutch

I left my readers in the car parked in the harbor…and the plan was to split their (Field’s) big ribeye the other night…we order drinks and I ask what the specials are, even though they were clearly printed on the specials menu…waiter says tomahawk ribeye…I say fine, we’ll have that…wife interrupts me and says we need a minute.

Wife was like woah, wtf are you talking about…That steak is $175. When he comes back I just order the $55 one family style…

I'd make a point to do breakfast at Mockingbird Cafe one of the days.

Day time drinks I'd skip the blind tiger and hit either Dan B's or triple tails.

For a short drive, Bacchus on the Beach in Pass Christian is worth hitting.

Yeah Fields pricing is astronomical. It's not warranted by location or incredible dishes either.

If it were me I'd eat at Thorny Oyster and have the other meal at Trapanis or North Beach. I like Hook in the Pass as well.

This isn’t bad or anything, but I’m pretty sure those aren’t blue crabs. I’ve been assured they were by the staff…but it really looks like one of those beach crabs that goes down the holes. No points on the shell, it just looks different. It is %100 a soft shell crab, just no idea what kind…and if that kind ever develops a hard shell. IDK, strange thing to be OCD about I guess. Maybe they just removed the top shell and had short little fat legs…

I know that’s not the technical term, go have yourself a soft shell crab over there and tell me if you think it’s a blue crab. Doesn’t look like anything I’ve seen running traps in the bay.

IDK…I’m not saying they’re green crabs or fiddler crabs, or some Vietnamese crab…

I know it's a blue crab. Soft shells are trimmed/cleaned before being cooked in restaurants. That's why the shell area loses the points and all the mouth/eye bits on the front.

Nobody has the kind of time to go chasing eater size ghost/sand crabs during a molt . I highly doubt they exit their hole when molting. Blue crabs don't have a choice as they don't burrow.

I’ll be the Guinea pig…I’m telling you, no part of that crab looks like a blue crab. Shell, claws, flippers, mid-legs…nothing. I know it sounds crazy…and I’ll let myself out.

Im not saying they’re bad, I ate the damn thing…and I will again when I go take pictures, we can have this discussion with some data.

My interest is piqued. I'm from BSL and go back like once a month. I'll check it out next time. I just can't fathom how it'd be anything else but a blue crab.

Cuz’s has a legit smoked redfish dip. Everyone else in town does tuna (TBT) or salmon (200).
