When their special is the Big Tiger burger…holy S, it’s good. Thorny’s burger edges it with beef quality, same concept burger (double patty Big Mac style) but both are good…pretty tough to beat TBT for beers and conversation. Just a nice spot to have a few Freemasons…or 4.

Beachside at Buoy's has a pretty good burger and fries. Sea Level in Pass Christian is my favorite burger as well. Not the bay, but a Hidden spot in Long Beach - Long Beach Market and Deli; they have a take on banh mi and bulgogi poboys that is different.

"Radish" in LB looks very good and interesting. I follow the chef on IG. I think she was sous or second at Thorny Oyster previously.

We hit North Beach for a Burger at the bar to pick up the game in the 6th inning. Great handmade patty. It doesn’t get much better for a burger in my opinion.

Trapani’s burger is pretty solid too. Upstairs is a good spot to catch the big game

Is the Sycamore House dinner “dress code” similar to what I see in the rest of BSL? Khaki shorts and a polo?

The same ‘dress code’ as Thorny and Field’s…you DEFINITELY want to call for a reservation.

The Sycamore House was the dinner choice tonight. It has got to be the top restaurant meal of the year for me so far.

Wife and I shared the steak flautas and the crabmeat cheesecake appetizers. They were both great, but the crabmeat cheesecake appetizer was awesome!

We both enjoyed our soups. She ordered the sunchoke soup, which was warm and creamy. I ordered the cold cucumber and avocado soup special. It was both delicious and refreshing.

For our main course, she ordered the yellow curry with shrimp. It was very good with just the right amount of spice. I ordered the slow braised brisket as my main course. It was served on top of pepperjack grits with perfectly cooked pan sautéed vegetables on the side. The brisket was fork tender and perfectly seasoned in its braising liquid that complemented both the grits and the vegetables.

The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is unpretentious, straightforward, and delicious. These people get it right!

Thanks for all the recommendations. If you are in Bay St. Louis; the Sycamore House won’t disappoint.

The scallop and glass noodle app is my favorite bite of food in town. Unpretentious is a funny adjective, most people get the exact opposite vibe (which is why I didn’t recommend it)…but glad you two were comfortable. You’re IN their house, obviously…they live upstairs. They are no doubt very talented.

Did y’all have desert? She makes an amazing Pot-de-crème.

We did. The homemade cherry chocolate chip ice cream was great!

To me it seemed like they just found an old house that worked for them to live in and accommodate people while serving their great food. Nothing contrived, and all about the food.

They are a talented couple, living in an historic house and running a successful restaurant down stairs…you can’t get much cooler than that. They do give off the “we aren’t doing this for money” vibe.
