Gimme a $15 bottle of Hess cab or any Michael David red in that range (7 Deadly Zin, Petite Petit, Earthquake) and I'm content.

Petite Petit
One of the best under $20 reds out there IMO.

petit sirah

It's the one red variety that I just don't like.
I used to be the same way, and we were not alone in that sentiment.

However, there are some nice petitie sirah's being made in California right now. Bogle has already been mentioned in the lower price range. Blair Fox in the Santa Barbara area makes a great petite sirah, as do Turley, Carlisle, and Ridge. Of course those are prcier than Bogle. If you haven't tries one lately, give one a try. You might be surprised.

Columbia Crest's parent, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, still owns and makes Two Vines. It's just its own label now and uses CA grapes in addition to WA.

I also really like their H3 (Horse Heaven Hills) line, which is a couple bucks more that the Grand Estates wines but still only about $12 a bottle.

Hit up Spec's in Midtown and grab a bottle of the La Flor malbec by Pulenta, or shite any of the Pulenta wines. La Flor is their entry level, and at $15/bottle, it competes with bottles that cost $50

I also really like their H3

While I'm not a big merlot drinker, their 2008 won a lot of competitions and was phenomenal. The H3 is a great budget lineup for sure.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm fine with a lot of blends that include petite sirah, so I will try to branch out some more.

I Love a good Chianti for a robust taste as well. I find you can find much of the European stuff between $12-18 at whole foods, Alexander's, or Rouses.
