To any one familiar with Austin, where are some places I need to check out?

What about breakfast places?

I'm down for anything. Tex-Mex, BBQ, Japanese/Korean, etc. We'll be getting Torchy's Friday night but I'm clueless as to what Austin has to offer.

Ramen Tatsu-Ya has great noodle bowls/sliders.
Banger's for sausages/beers
Easy Tiger has great pretzels/homemade jerky/bar snacks and beer
Kerby Lane Cafe is a good breakfast joint
Noble Sandwich Co. is great
La BBQ is almost equal to Franklin
Micklethwait Craft Meats if you want great BBQ without the wait
East side King is a great food truck as is Chi'Lantro
Lucy's for fried chicken
Mighty Cone for food to go
Uchi if you want high end Japanese

I was thinking of this one, but couldn't remember the name. It's been about 3 years since I've gone, but it was good. Thanks

We ate at Bacon for breakfast one day and it was pretty damn good.

No. The only redeeming quality of this place is its courtyard and live music. If you want good tacos, look elsewhere, like Torchy's or Taco Deli.

tlsu15 knows his stuff, but I'd say skip Mighty Cone. It's good, but a bit of a rip off for the amount of food you get, and it's a food truck.

Hopdoddy - Best burger you'll ever have
Lamberts - Upscale BBQ downtown
Curras - Good interior mexican food
Polvos - Same as above
Draught House - Neighborhood Pub - no food (besides food trucks) but awesome beer selection and great beer garden.
ABGB - Good pizza, mediocre beer, but a cool place that often has live music

I saw something about this place being coined the best ramen in the US and within a day there was a line several blocks long.

I've been there. It was pretty good, and the first and only time I've had Ramen. The line wasn't that long, but this was 2 years ago.

The last time I went was probably 2 years ago too. They had a line of about 25 people right before it opened. It moved fairly quickly though. They don't do to go orders either (or at least they didn't at that time).

This. Kerby Lane is pretty average too.

This

I'll add Whip In for craft beer.

Here is a tip. There is always a line to get in this place. Tell the guy working the door you'll be drinking and request a spot at the bar. He'll come find you in the line when a spot or two opens up. Usually cuts the wait down by half or more.

I'll piggyback off this post

any east Austin recs? specifically around Cesar Chavez and east 6th?

Never ventured much in that area but we got a house on Cesar Chavez this time instead of south congress like we normally do

Veracruz All Natural for tacos. It is on par with Torchy's IMO. Hops & Grain brewing is over there too. The Liberty is a dive bar on E. 6th that has a East Side King food truck (paul Qui) in the back beer garden. Qui is just down the street which is Paul Qui's upscale place.

Definitely hit up Hops & Grain...one of Austin's better breweries. Get some Pale Mosaic IPA...it's one of my favorite IPA's.

Takoba is also a pretty great modern Mexican place on E 7th. Get their Al Pastor Torta. It's amazing.

This place was good too. I went for the first time before a work party for SXSW a few weeks back. It's a very chill space with a nice patio in the back. The tacos were solid and the Molletes (refried beans, roasted poblano and monterrey jack cheese on an open-faced bolillo) was very good and something I hadn't had before.

I have a friend at ABGB and I go there fairly often but the beer selection is tiny and not that great. Food is good.

Pinthouse Pizza is now right down the street and the beer is fantastic. Much better option for craft beer if you ask me.

Honestly, I think Little Deli has the best pizza in Austin, but that's usually a little out of the way for visitors. If you live in Austin, check it out.
