Asheville Brewery Recs

Headed up to GSMNP in October to spend a few days then headed to Asheville afterwards to finish off the week. What are some breweries we should hit up? Our young kids will be with us. If you have a restaurant recommendation, I'll take that as well.

Forestry Camp has outdoor seating and is the burial brewery guys. Food is really good.
Smokey Park Supper club is on the French Broad. Wide open space for kids the run around. Just opened back up so can’t really comment on the food.
Highland Brewery is the most kid friendly.
Burial, bhramari, fonta flora (about 45 min drive), wedge and new Belgium. We’ve brought our 2 year old to those.
If you want to do NB go ahead and lock down a reservation.

Beer snobs will downvote but Wicked Weed is a great space for kids, the Funkatirium not so much. Sierra Nevada and NB are both open and spacious. Great for families.
Burial and Fonta Flora (a drive) are not really setup for kids to enjoy themselves in taproom.

Unfortunately Sierra is closed until next year but would be the best recommendation.
Fonta flora nebo location is a wide open field with food trucks.
Burials tap room isn’t open. Just their outdoor patio area. Same with bhramari.
Wicked weed is ok for kids. It’s pretty much a sit down restaurant and the beer is decent ;).

Any new breweries open in the downtown area in the last year?

Why, because of AB? Their beer seems to be the same.

I’m here now. It’s honestly pretty crappy with the Covid restrictions and closures. Limited seating, limited hours of operations, mask nazi hippies, no live music, and general feel of unhappiness. I’m here 10-12 times a year normally, but this is my first trip since Covid. It sucks. I hope it’s better for you in October.

DSSLVR is new in downtown, and really good.
I'd strongly recommend taking a weekday to go to the breweries, they get packed as frick on the weekends.

The weather is awesome right now and the leaves will be perfect for an October visit. Things may have limited seating but there are still plenty of options. Not sure where all the mask nazi hippies are. Will let you know if I see any.

Great suggestion if possible.

Packs Tavern as of last night. Got up from my seat at the bar, took off toward the restroom with out my mask, realized my mistake about 6 steps into the deal, wheeled around to go grab it and got accosted by some angry chick who clearly saw it was an innocent mistake. Also saw a wookie yelling at maskless passers by in front of Bomba. Despite all the maskless gutter punks littered about. Just not the same vibe here, but I realize that’s the case everywhere.

I’ve had zero issues here but maybe that’s because I’m not looking for any.

Im not looking for shite. Just relaying my experience/opinion.

Any recommendations on places to go that are the "easiest" to deal with all the covid stuff? I'll be there this weekend. I've been a couple times and am familiar with most of Asheville, but as you've said, COVID has made things very different.

Are you looking for places that aren't packed or places that don't require masks while walking to the restroom?
Posted on 9/23/20 at 9:54 am to BooneTrails
Haha bit of both I guess. I know most will be very busy on weekends and whatnot. Looks like some require reservations and some don't. Wicked Weed had a thing saying that you need to be within 5 miles to make your reservations, so not really sure how they police that.
As for restaurants, any of the good ones that were particularly easier to navigate than others? Looks like a lot that are taking reservations, require a credit card down, which I really don't care to do.
How have restaurants been if you didn't have a reservation? Unfortunately, due to covid, our actual schedule and itinerary has been pretty fluid, so i haven't been able to nail down times I know i'll be able to do a reservation, and now that i'm starting to look, most places don't seem to have any reservations left. Is it just impossible to get a table somewhere without a reservation?

Curate is awesome if you can get in.

Asheville is up to its hairy armpits with this filth. And it's a shame. Beautiful place.

Yea, I want to try curate, but they are all out of reservations. I've emailed them to see if there are any options or if it was even worth trying to walk in.
