the things I've seen Alton Brown demonstrate
Alton Brown is actually opposed to the fad of molecular gastronomy. He believes that there is as much "food science" (of which molecular gastronomy is a subset) involved in poaching the perfect egg as there is to building an emulsified droplet of lavender smoke and powdered goat butter. He says that molecular gastronomy provides an interesting and new avenue for established chefs to experiment with new things, but bemoans newer chefs who do not learn the basics, but skip straight to utilizing liquid nitrogen and xanthan gum as crutches. He also says he wants his food to look and taste like food.
I know, that's pretty serious, huh?

It's not a generality though. It's a fact. Everything does come from the earth. Unless you think that twinkies were sent to us by klingons I'm not sure what you're point it.

: Yeah you're right, a squash grown in your backyard is the exact same as the unpronounceable ingredients on the back of a box of Twinkies.
Comparing apples to apples would be comparing say an eggplant casserole made from homegrown eggplants vs a packaged frozen microwaveable eggplant casserole from walmart.
Are they really the same?
Sorry about my previous post. I believe you piggybacked poopsonsabans post about mining mars or some shite and you took it to star trek. R2R ha a weak defense bc hes taking this shite too seriously and overlooked it.

Yes. He seems to be a little bent about it. He mad. So it prob really sticks in his geeky craw that people think he is a figurehead for the movement!

I think everyone should eat at places who's slogan is "Welcome to Restaurant xyz, where we don't take our food too seriously and neither should you." Now that's my kind of a place. I have complete faith in the food I'm putting in my mouth there. Wonderfully mediocre to garbage.
Hey, how about Coach Miles getting in front of the BR media and saying after a loss, "Sorry fellas, but I think you take this football thing too seriously. Or maybe the President... "You Americans take this debt and unemployment thing a bit too seriously"
In the end I guess it depends on what's important to you. What I put in my mouth happens to be a big concern of mine.

Again, why the need to bring the frozen part into the argument? And why does it necessarily have to be from some place like wal mart?
It's as if you guys know you're full of shite so you have to come up with bullshite variables to support your point.
I'll take that BS as you conceding you don't have a point.

That's correct. Natural and not natural are false constructs. Everything is derived from nature therefore everything is natural.

And the ultimate irony is that you spend your time on the F&D Board to post this????? Come on man, I thought you were above being a troll, but I was obviously mistaken.......

I'm in the camp that believes anything that humans would not have encountered before its creation by humans is considered "unnatural."
Now, granted there are healthy food products created solely by us (i.e. - that couldn't exist without human ingenuity), but there are many that are harmful as well. These are the ones I avoid.
And getting into a semantical argument really shows you lack confidence in your primary point; which seems to be defending people who eat crap and, in turn, their excuses for doing so.

Plenty of people here take it far more seriously than I do, but I'm sure I take other things more serious than they do. It's all what you wanna spend your time on I guess.
