Gonna make some tomorrow, but its gonna be hot as balls and wont set easy I'm sure. Thinking about just sitting the machine in the deep freezer with the ice salt water around it.

Figure it'll work and not freeze too quick?

Is it too hard to get ice where you live?

It’s always hot when people make ice cream. Try it.

Put the machine in the kitchen sink, and feed it ice/salt normally.

I've made it several times before. It's always a pain to get it to freeze when it's this hot.

Yeah, that's a decent idea, may do that instead

I don't understand this.

You do realize you don't have to actually make it outside, right? Or do you not have AC?

Just make it inside of a room rather than icing everything inside of your freezer from outside humidity because you threw an extension cord for power in the door while it was making

I am fairly sure you would not get the cooling you desire - the BTUs of cooling available would be much less that the melting of the ice in the ice water/salt bath. Therefore, it would probably take a long time. With ice cream you want rapid cooling.

Well I was still gonna put it in the ice water and salt. , just figured I wouldn't have to constantly add ice and it might freeze quicker that way.

It is the melting of ice and the heat that it absorbs (from the ice cream) that supplies the cooling load. I don’t think you would get that same kind of heat transfer from the air in the freezer to the salt/water mixture.

It takes lots of BTUs to cause phase changes. Basically, all the heat to freeze ice cream melts about the same amount of ice. It is more cooling load than you might think.

Indoors in a sink works well.

Also, with his repeated mentions of ice water I think his problem is not enough ice. As you mentioned, it’s the primary driver of energy transfer.

Water’s only value is as a medium of even transfer.

I don’t know his set up, but if he is adding much more than a cup of water, he is probably screwing up on set up which is causing all of his problems.

Or get smaller cubes.

I dont add water until it gets stuck and I cant get it to spin again. The ice water I'm referring to is melted ice. I'll probably just do it in the bath tub. Its gonna make to much racket in the kitcben while we eat.

It was just an idea to do it in the deep freeze cause I thought it might work well.

Do you guys not have a churn with a bowl that you put in the freezer so it's ready to make ice cream when you are?

No, mine is something like this.
The churns stuck and start leaking the blue shite after a while I've heard

I made it on my back patio last summer in the 105 degree Texas heat. No problems, had to add a bit of ice mid way but not a problem at all.

Did it in the bathtub, only took one bag of ice. Never had to refill it and froze quick.
