Seeing this more and more on menus, ranging from $7.00 to higher.

Anyone ever done it? Do I get proof the kitchen received my gift? Do I get a "thank you"? Also, would it be done after receiving a great meal, or before in hopes the kitchen may hook me up somehow?

Or does it go right into the restaurant's pockets?

Nope, probably won't either.

They never buy me a 6 pack for doing my job.

Wife and I did once. The kitchen sent us a few appetizers they were testing for their updated menu and asked for feedback on them.

I don't think this is the norm, but I thought it was cool.

I’ve never seen it happen.
We had a pretty long thread about this a few months back

I chuckle every time I see it and leave an AA card as my tip.

I started a thread about this about a month ago. I saw it on a menu and had never seen it before, wanted to ask the FDB if this was a new trend.

The place I was at wanted something like $23 for a six pack for the kitchen. Absolutely ridiculous.

But for $7? Yeah sure I'd buy a 6-pack for the kitchen. Especially if it was a place I went to often.

Are you under the assumption that you are supposed to tip the kitchen staff? I wouldn't do it, but if one day I'm eating at one of those kitchen table bars and the cook is chatting with me, I might would buy him a beer.

Hell, I buy my bartenders shots and still tip them.

No, but I normally leave a 20% tip so if their co-workers want to contribute to the kitchen, more power to them.

I'd do it before the meal, keep 3 for me and send the other 3 to the kitchen.

If we're dining to celebrate something with family, I usually offer the remaining cake to the servers and staff. They've always accepted and been very appreciative.

Are you saying some places have a "menu" for gratuities?

Not really. But some places are putting an item on their menu for "Buy a beer for the kitchen" or something like that, usually under the beverages section.

Nope. Don't see any reason why I ever would either. Maybe City Pork (or other restaurant) Mgmt/Ownership should take care of their employees if they felt this would be a good morale boost or award for good performance.

Ivar's owners used to send us beers back on busy nights. Like throwing a fish carcass into the water next to a fish cleaning station.
