Anyone else love fajitas but hate the smoking plate they're served on?

I scan the restaurant to judge the smoke factor before ordering fajitas at some places. Kind of annoying to be the only one at the table whose entree is choking the table.

Just ask them to put them on a regular plate. No more scanning. Problem solved

I've had a steak I ordered rare be brought out on one of those plates, I got served last at the table and the steak was medium well by the time I cut into it.

I just don't see the point of those plates, for any meal.

My dad asks them to put it on a regular plate before bringing it it so he doesn't smell like fajitas for the rest of the day.

I don't really mind it, but last time I went to George's in Mandeville they brought out the smokiest plate of fajitas I've ever seen. It smoked for a good 5 minutes, and I'm talking billowing clouds that wafted across the entire restaurant / I was right in the line of fire and had to stand up for a minute so as not to suffocate.

I like scraping off the caramelized onions on the hot skillet.

Then it seems you'll just have to quietly take the good with the bad in this instance and not complain about the smoke.

Which is what I tend to do.

Love fajitas enough to tolerate the smoke. Just wished there was another way (that didn't involve putting them on a regular plate).

Oh well. 1st world problems

I personally prefer to have a "smoking" plate. I like searing the onions on the plate. Brings me back to my childhood, getting fajitas at el chico's back when it was awesome.

They didn't cook the steak properly to begin with or it was a thin steak. I use to work at a place with sizzlin plates and although very hot, not hot enough to take a steak from rare to medium well

I'm pretty certain this was part of the problem as well.

I've never found it particularly troublesome. I usually lean back from the table until the steam or smoke blows over, but it's never lasted very long. I'd rather not smell like them for the rest of the day if eating them at lunch, but usually leaning back away from them prevents that for the most part. I like the hot plate and the caramelization more than the smoke bothers me if I were weighing all factors.

And Zombie don't go to Saritas. Their plates are so hot and steaming I thought the fire alarm would go off.

In Houston. There is one on Richmond, one on Washington and one downtown on Navigation. I think there is one out in Cypress now too but not positive.
