Anyone else find using a meat cleaver soothing?

Only if they are razor sharp, and mine are. I have 2 I use from time to time, one an Old Hickory with the heavy steel blade and the other a much lighter stainless steel blade that came with a set.
Both sharp enough to use for vegetable prep to breaking down large pieces of meat and cutting through joints. Also great for making quick work smashing garlic cloves.

100%. Nothing feels better than sinking a weighty blade through flesh, sliding against a hard bone, then giving it a hard WHAM and feeling the bone crush under your will.

Yep, love to use mine on pulled pork. I rescued mine from the rust pile at a antique store and restored it.

No, I prefer a nice chef's knife, but I have used it for veg. prep before and it's not a bad thing.
Have you ever seen how many Asian chefs use large bladed cleavers for everything in the kitchen??? It's not unheard of, and very common in some cultures.
