Anybody remember Rikenjaks in the late 90's

I used to love Rikenjaks beer back in the late 90's. Old Hardhead was one of my favorites. It was brewed near Baton Rouge, but then moved to Lake Charles. Now, it's no longer brewed. Anybody out there remember them? I wish they would have stayed in the Baton Rouge area. I think they would have become really popular.

I drank a few drafts there when they were still brewing in Lake Charles. It's still open but is just a bar/music venue, no longer a brewpub. I think a local brewpub in BR (not a chain) would do well now.

I loved it. Hadn't thought about it in years though.

I still have a mug from them.
I didn't remember them going to Lake Charles, or having a brewpub. Weren't they originally based in the Felicianas somewhere?

I do! I was in Grad School in the early 90s and decided to take a beer brewing class offered through Gumbo-U. There was about 10-12 of us and we'd meet at this guy's house and learn how to brew beer, do some tastings, etc. The last session, we made a field trip up to Jackson, LA to visit Rikenjaks and got the tour. Not much to see, other than used stainless steel dairy equipment set up in a barn, making beer. Pretty cool. The beer was fair-good. I always wondered whatever happened to them.

I loved that beer. There were some good small batch brews in the early mid-nineties around LA. Anybody rembember Brasserie(?) brewery in Breaux Bridge? Vermillion Red and some brown beer made with Steens. Good stuff.

Even though I wanted to, I just did not like any of the beers from the Breaux Bridge brewery (Plantation Ale, Cypress something-or-other). It was great that some locals were trying to make a go of it.

I remember. It used to be sold on draft in Slidell at Laughing Pines Brewery across from the train station. I liked it.
I wish that place was still open. Never ate there but drank there a lot. Their brew on tap was pretty good. Also for 5 bucks then, you could fill up a big ole glass jug of beer of choice to take home.

Yes, Rikenjaks was in Jackson, LA. They used to offer an E.S.B., American Ale and Old Hardhead. I also think they would do well now. Wish they would come back.
I remember hearing about Laughing Pines. Didn't they come from another brewery? What happened to them?
Cheers!

You really don't want to know their secret ingredient if you've ever drank their brew before.

shite, I guess I don't want to know. I drank plenty of pints back in the 90's at the Chimes. Please don't tell me.
