I enjoy this one during the spring, but only for a short time. Seems to get old rather quickly.

re: Beers in Destin. Anything new?

I go during the summer and do the same thing. Not sure of anything new. I always go to Chan's Wine World. They have a great selection.

I also enjoy this style. One of my favorites.

I recommend the following, all are great!:

Ommegang Hennepin (Farmhouse Saison)

St. Feuillien Saison

I forgot to list Le Merle on the link to the thread posted the other day.

Looking forward to this. Picked up some New Belgian brews in Gatlinburg and enjoyed all of them.
I would love to see them here in LA. Where did you hear this, is it official?

I've had it many times on tap and find it average. It's good with crawfish.

re: Beer to discuss? Farm House Style Ale.

This has become one of my favorite styles over the last 3 years. I enjoy them (Farm House/Saison) most during the Spring and Summer.

I would recommend these two if you have't tried them yet (these are my reviews). I thought they were world class brews:

I agree. Another great one!

re: What is your favorite Louisiana Beer?

Posted by Tbim on 2/13/13 at 2:51 pm
Well, I love Louisiana beer and I always try to support our local brewers.

Some of my favorites in no order:

1 - Abita Pecan

2 - Abita SOS

3 - Abita Oyster Stout (on tap)

4 - Abita Turbo Dog

5 - NOLA Hopitoulas

6 - NOLA Irish Channel Stout

7 - Bayou Teche Courir de Mardi Gras

My favorite Louisiana brew of all time is the now extinct Rikenjaks Old Hardhead. That was a great beer! Wish it was still produced.

I also enjoyed the beers from Acadian Brewing which is now closed. Both from the mid 90's.

I'm a practicing and proud Catholic. "I"..."I" don't force my beliefs on anyone and I don't tell people how to live. The question for this thread was "What food/drink are you giving up for Lent?", not "Let's see how we can bash Catholics". I knew before I opened this thread that there would be some on here bashing Religion and sure enough, there was. I know some don't believe in God and that's fine with me, that's your belief. Just asking for a little more tolerance for those who do believe in God.
Ever notice how a simple question like this ends up in Catholic and Christian bashing? Try to be a little more tolerant of people who don't believe as you do.

Should be fine. I would drink it.

I've tried it and thought it was good.

re: FBD - Great Year For Beer!

Posted by Tbim on 12/31/12 at 2:10 pm
I had a lot of great beers this year. I really enjoyed the new beers I found from Highland out of North Carolina. Also had a Terrapin Dark Side Belgian Style Imperial Stout that I was storing and it was great. Finished the year off with a Bayou Teche Joie à Tous, which was one of the most unique beers I've had. LINK

On a sad note, someone accidently drank my only bottle of Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary - Fritz And Ken's Ale (Imperial Stout). Luckily, I still have the barley wine. I put it in a better place.
Posted this news on our site today:

Brewing and tweaking five gallon test batches on the antiquated propane rig our brewery uses for weekend crawfish boils for inspiration, brewmaster Gar Hatcher crafted a biere to complement the spicy epitome of Cajun cuisine.

Kcrad,
I used to drink this with my grandfathers long ago so I wanted to try it again with the orginal formula and in a bottle. For what it is... I thought it was excellent. Here's my review: LINK

re: Favorite Abita beer

Posted by Tbim on 10/26/12 at 7:59 am
I love Abita beer. I think they make a great product and it shows by their continued success. True, they don't make extreme beers, but I'm not in the mood for extreme beers all the time. They have a great selection of seasonal and year-round brews. I'm glad to have them in Louisiana and I buy their products all the time. I really don't understand why they are looked down upon by some in the craft beer scene, but everyone has an opinion and this is mine.

As for my favorites by them, in no order:

Pecan Harvest
Christmas Ale
Turbodog
Red Ale
Abbey Ale
and many others.

I like the selection at Whole Foods in Metairie. If possible, go across the lake and visit Acquistapace’s. They have a great selection of beer.

I had a Dogfish Head Burton Baton and a Stillwater Stateside Saison. Both were outstanding and I'm reviewing them on our site.

Green Flash Brewing thoughts?

Posted by Tbim on 7/19/12 at 6:46 am
So any of you Louisiana guys tried Green Flash yet? Just wondering what you thought of their brews? I had their IPA and really enjoyed it. I need to purchase their other offerings too.
