Anybody have a Nespresso?

Have been looking to get one, from what I have read the original type is still the one to get over one of the new vertuo types. The model I am most interested in is the Citiz with the integrated milk frother. Opinions?

We got the vertuoline one with the milk frother for 125 and love it. Wanted the vertuoline because we wanted to be able to make coffee as well. It's about a dollar a pod which isn't cheap but if you do this instead of buying starbucks...and if you're an OT baller it's no big deal.

No. Been looking at them. Found a refurbished ninja coffee bar for $25 on ebay and it's been pretty awesome. I buy heavy cream, microwave it a little then froth it.

Yeah at first I wanted to get a vertuo line to make larger cups but some of the reviews said the espresso wasn't as hot because of the different process it uses.

I've been stuck on death wish coffee for now. Its pretty strong. I do like espresso though and would like to get another machine.

I've had the vertuoline model for over a year. It makes fantastic coffee, much better than Keurig trash. Had a buddy over yesterday and I was telling him how great it was, he tried a cup, then immediately ordered a machine.
The coffee comes out hot, just not mouth burning hot. I think it's the perfect temperature.

Yes, I have the model with the attached milk frother. I think it was about $250 and worth every penny.

Does it make great espresso? No. Does it make decent espresso. Yes. I have an older one and use it for quick caffeine. It'll work fine for you if you're not a coffee nerd. If you're really into coffee, you'll be disappointed. Same as a keurig.
I have the stand-alone milk frother that works great.

The new ones are much better on that

Forgive my ignorance, but does it use Pods or ground coffee?

Another ?...are the pods OEM/brand specific or can you use any pod?

Just say no to the VertuoLine machines. Buy an original line machine.
The original line pods are now widely available from other coffee makers. You can get non-brand Nespresso compatible capsules from Lavazza and many other makers. I bought compatible capsules at Sant Eustachio in Rome; even the Tesco-brand ones aren’t half bad. Not so with the VertuoLine, which still require buying only Nespresso pods.
I had the Pixie & wore it out. It wasn’t fixable, so Nespresso gave me a credit toward a new one—it’s a Citiz that’s about 2 years old. Have an old Pixie at the office as well (much lighter use than the one at home).
I use the separate Aeroccino frother/milk heater. It’s kinda fiddly to clean (have to hand wash, rather than it being a separate part that is dishwasher safe. If you’re not careful, you’ll get burned milk scum that’s challenging to scrape away. After multi year use, the rubber gasket got stinky, and I replaced it and the frothing spinner paddle. (Someone at my house forgets to rinse it out before leaving for the day, and it can turn nasty as a result.)

We have a vertuoline as wel. I use it every morning. Kicks the shite out of Keurig.

I love the convenience of the Keurig but the quality isn’t there. But Keurig pods are available everywhere.
So what machine do y’all suggest that will use the common pods that are readily available.
FTR, I want one for the office so it needs to be simple. I don’t want to make this a project, just a better cup of coffee than the Keurig offers.

You aren’t going to get a decent cup of espresso-like with a non-pressurized machine, ie, Keurig style pods. Buy a Nespresso Citiz or other Nespresso compatible without a built in milk frother for light office use.
I own a “real” espresso machine & Baratza ceramic burr grinder, an Aeropress, two Bialetti moka pots, a Chemex, a french press, a Clever pour-over dripper, an old-school enameled stovetop drip pot, a vietnamese style stainless steel cup-top coffee filter, and probably three or four other coffee making gadgets I can’t think of right now. I use that damn Nespresso nearly every day.

I have the mini which uses original pods. It came with milk frother thing. Love it! It has turned me into a coffee addict and I even bring the machine with me on vaca.

I bought a Vertuoline when it first came out after a cup of coffee at a friend’s house. I was blown away by that cup of coffee. Unfortunately, I could never recreate the experience with my machine. I used it for a few years and moved on to another coffee maker.

I have a citiz n milk. it is great for espresso shots and double espresso shots. you can make cold and hot latte's with them as well. The capsules are about a dollar a piece unless you buy them in large bulk quantities. Overall I'm happy with mine. Consider your counter space because it does take up about a square foot. It does put out a great espresso though.
